Explained: Why Netflix Chose to Renew Geek Girl for a Second Season

Geek Girl fans rejoice as Netflix confirms a second season filled with drama and fashion.

Fans of Harriet Manners can look forward to her upcoming return! Reports indicate that Netflix has renewed the teen drama series Geek Girl for a second season, as shared by The Cinemaholic.

Filming for the new installment is scheduled to take place in London, England, and Ottawa, Ontario, during the summer of 2025. Jessica Ruston and Holly Smale will continue to oversee the writing team, while Declan O’Dwyer is set to return as the director.

In the series’ first season, Harriet pass her new career as a model, which strains her friendships with Nat and Annabel after they learn of her secrets. Although she begins dating Nick, the pressures of modeling create a challenging dynamic. Meanwhile, Harriet faces bullying from Poppy, finally leading her to quit her modeling job.

As the story uncovers, Harriet returns to school, only to encounter bullying from Lexi. This time, however, she decides to stand her ground and embraces her authentic self. With encouragement from Nat and Toby, she effectively confronts her bullies.

The season concludes with Harriet and Nat enjoying their friendship, free from the internal conflict of choosing between modeling and her education.

In a conversation with Radio Times, Carey mentioned that the first season, adapted from the initial book in Smale’s Geek Girl series, also incorporated elements from the second and third books.

Nevertheless, plenty of material remains for adaptation in future seasons. The first season sets the stage for Harriet’s potential return to modeling as an adult.

However, the next installment is likely to explore how Harriet’s career choices influence her relationship with Nick. The intense competition within the fashion industry may also spark jealousy and a resurgence of bullying.

It remains to be seen if Poppy (Daisy Jelley) and Lexi (Mia Jenkins) will return, each serving as reminders of Harriet’s insecurities. Although the cast for season 2 has yet to be confirmed, Emily Carey is expected to reprise her role as Harriet Manners.

Other likely returning cast members include Liam Woodrum as Nick Park, Rochelle Harrington and Zac Looker as Natalie “Nat” Grey and Toby Pilgrim, and Tim Downie and Jemima Rooper as Harriet’s parents, Richard and Annabel.

The first season of the show was also filmed in London and Ottawa. The English capital serves as a prominent filming location for numerous Netflix productions, including 3 Body Problem, The Gentlemen, and Bridgerton.

Meanwhile, Ottawa is a favored site for Lifetime and Hallmark films, with recent productions like Would You Kill for Me? The Mary Bailey Story and Paging Mr. Darcy filmed there.
