The director for the highly anticipated adaptation has finally been chosen! According to The Cinemaholic, Linda Mendoza will take the helm of the romantic comedy ‘Relationship Goals,’ which is based on Michael Todd’s 2020 book titled ‘Relationship Goals: How to Win at Dating, Marriage, and Sex.’
Filming for the project is set to begin in Toronto, Ontario, and Tulsa, Oklahoma, on March 9, 2025. DeVon Franklin is producing the film and has played a key role in transforming the book into a feature film. The screenplay has been penned by Michael Elliot, Cory Tynan, and Laura Lekkos.
The story follows Leah, the first Black woman to hold the position of morning TV showrunner. As her career ascends, she must steer the unexpected return of an ex-lover, who is now vying for her job.
The professional tension escalates further when her former partner introduces an inspirational preacher into the mix. Intriguingly, his bestselling book, ‘Relationship Goals,’ seems to rekindle a spark in his life, potentially reviving the chemistry they once shared.
Mendoza boasts a wealth of experience in the film industry, particularly in television. She is celebrated for her contributions to PBS’ educational series ‘Sesame Street,’ for which she and her fellow directors received the Outstanding Directing for a Preschool, Children’s or Family Viewing Program award at the 2021 Daytime Emmy Awards, along with the Outstanding Directing for a Children’s or Young Adult Program award at the 2020 Daytime Emmy Awards.
Additionally, she earned a Primetime Emmy nomination for directing ‘Wanda Sykes: I’m an Entertainer.’ Her impressive portfolio also includes directing work on series such as ‘Ugly Betty,’ ‘Grown-ish,’ ‘Scrubs,’ ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine,’ and ‘Black-ish.’
