The finale of Loki season 2 on Disney Plus left fans with a lot to unpack. Episode 6 marked the culmination of a long journey for Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, who, after facing numerous challenges, ultimately makes a significant sacrifice. Throughout the season, Loki teamed up with Mobius (Owen Wilson) and Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) to save the Time Variance Authority (TVA). The finale, filled with high stakes and emotional moments, brings Loki’s story to a dramatic close.
At the beginning of episode 6, Loki is struggling to control his time-slipping abilities. He attempts multiple times to go back to the moment before Victor Timely steps into the radiation that causes chaos in the timeline. Despite his best efforts, Loki fails to fix the situation and spends centuries learning from OB (actor TBD) to understand mechanics and speed up the process. However, the branches in the timeline are multiplying at an infinite rate, and Loki realizes that adapting the temporal loom won’t solve the issue.
Loki’s Transformation into the God of Time and Sacrifice to Save the Timeline
In a pivotal moment, Loki decides to go further back in time to try and change things before they get out of hand. He revisits the scene from season 1, where Sylvie kills He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors).
He tries to prevent her actions several times, but He Who Remains steps in, revealing that the temporal loom is designed only to protect the sacred timeline. He warns Loki that destroying the loom will trigger a devastating war. After refusing to accept this, Loki faces the possibility of killing Sylvie to prevent the destruction of the timeline.

Loki’s journey of self-discovery leads him to a final decision: he transforms into the God of Time. Loki realizes that the only way to save the branches is to destroy the loom. As he does so, he gathers the branches of the timeline and embraces his new role as the God of Time, signaling a powerful shift in his character arc. His friends, including Mobius and Sylvie, witness this transformation as Loki finds his purpose and takes responsibility for maintaining the timeline.
TVA’s New Stability, Emotional Goodbyes, and Lingering Questions for Loki’s Future
After Loki’s self-sacrifice, the TVA is left to pick up the pieces. With Hunter B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku) now in charge, the TVA seems to have found a new sense of stability. OB (actor TBD) develops a new version of the TVA handbook, ensuring that no one is sent to the past to drop it through Victor Timely’s window.
Meanwhile, Ms. Minutes, a reprogrammed version of the AI, is back in action. Mobius shares the troubling news that variants of He Who Remains are still out there, setting up future conflicts, particularly with Kang the Conqueror.
The end of season 2 brings emotional moments for Mobius and Sylvie. Mobius, after receiving a file about his variant, makes the decision to leave the TVA and explore his life in the timeline.

He shares a heartfelt goodbye with Hunter B-15, acknowledging his fear but expressing his desire to see what life outside the TVA holds. Mobius later watches his variant, Don, living a peaceful life with his children. Meanwhile, Sylvie enjoys the newfound freedom that comes with not being tied to the TVA, suggesting that she is forging her own path forward.
The season 2 finale leaves several questions open, particularly regarding the fate of He Who Remains. It is clear that his variants, including Kang the Conqueror, are still lurking in the MCU’s future. Additionally, Judge Renslayer’s (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) fate remains uncertain.
After being sent to the Void earlier in the season, she wakes up in a desolate place, with the ominous presence of Alioth, a creature that could pose a significant threat. As for whether Loki season 2 is the last, Tom Hiddleston has indicated that he feels satisfied with the ending, while Sylvie’s actress, Sophia Di Martino, suggests that Loki’s role as the God of Time may lead to more storylines in the future. Fans will have to wait to see what’s next for Loki and the MCU.
