What Happens in Mask Girl?

Mo-mi’s escape from the law begins after she kills Handsome Monk, an obsessed follower who attempted to attack her and expose her real identity to her online audience.

After undergoing plastic surgery to change her appearance, she later murders Ju Oh-nam, another obsessive fan who assaults her. With her new identity, she reinvents herself as a cabaret singer named A-reum.

During this phase of her life, she forms a close bond with fellow performer Kim Chun-ae, and together they prevent Oh-nam’s mother, Kyung-ja, from tracking Mo-mi down. When they kill Chun-ae’s abusive roommate, Bu-yong, the two attempt to flee town but are intercepted by Kyung-ja.

A violent confrontation comes to light, leaving both Kyung-ja and Chun-ae dead. Mo-mi disposes of their bodies, along with Bu-yong’s, by pushing Kyung-ja’s car into a lake before driving away.

Years later, after giving birth to Mi-mo, the biological daughter of Oh-nam, Mo-mi decides to surrender to authorities. Her arrest, having been a long-anticipated event, becomes a major national news story, bringing unwanted attention to Mi-mo and marking her future with constant scrutiny.

How Does Mask Girl End?

Mi-mo is raised by her grandmother, Young-hee, but their relationship strains after she is expelled from school for fighting. With no other options, Mi-mo turns to a familiar street food vendor, “Tteokbokki Granny,” one of the few people who has ever shown her kindness.

While serving her prison sentence, Mo-mi learns that the daughter of her long-time prison tormentor, Eun-suk, requires a kidney transplant.

Willing to donate her kidney, she volunteers for the procedure, and by coincidence, their blood types match. Grateful for Mo-mi’s generosity, Eun-suk uses her influence to ensure that Mo-mi avoids conflicts with both prison officials and fellow inmates.

During a religious visit to the prison, Mo-mi is shocked to recognize Kyung-ja, whom she had believed to be dead. Kyung-ja had survived the incident at the lake, escaping the submerged car just in time.

To conceal her past, she altered her appearance and assumed a new identity as Nam O-ju, ensuring that no one, especially Mi-mo, would ever uncover the truth. She is determined to ruin Mo-mi’s daughter’s life as revenge for the death of her son. What Mi-mo does not know is that Kyung-ja has already been manipulating her childhood.

She is none other than “Tteokbokki Granny,” secretly gaining Mi-mo’s trust while also spreading damaging rumors and encouraging her aggressive behavior, leading to repeated expulsions and her eventual estrangement from Young-hee. When Mo-mi tries to warn the prison guards about Kyung-ja’s intentions, her claims are dismissed.

Meanwhile, Eun-suk has been feeding Mo-mi false information about Mi-mo’s whereabouts. On the day of the kidney transplant, Mo-mi persuades the guards to let her use the restroom at the hospital. Instead of returning, she escapes, having suspected Eun-suk’s deception all along.

After stealing a car, she races toward Kyung-ja’s home, armed with the address provided by Young-hee, who is also desperately trying to locate her granddaughter. Both Mo-mi and Young-hee, accompanied by Mi-mo’s only friend, Ye-chun, are unknowingly heading toward the same destination, hoping to save Mi-mo.

Inside Kyung-ja’s home, Mi-mo remains unaware of her caretaker’s sinister intentions. Grateful for the warmth and care she receives from Kyung-ja—something she never felt from Young-hee—Mi-mo does not suspect that her soup has been drugged with sleeping pills. Kyung-ja intends to film her death as revenge against Mo-mi.

Before she can act, the police arrive, having been called by Young-hee. However, they leave without investigating further, unaware that Mi-mo is restrained in Kyung-ja’s hidden basement. When Young-hee and Ye-chun finally reach the house, Ye-chun manages to free Mi-mo, but tragedy strikes when Kyung-ja fatally stabs Young-hee.

Mo-mi arrives just in time to witness her mother’s final moments and manages to rescue both Mi-mo and Ye-chun, though neither recognizes her. She subdues Kyung-ja just as the police return. As Mo-mi shields Mi-mo, Kyung-ja kills her in front of the authorities, leading to her own immediate death at the hands of the police.

Sometime later, Mi-mo moves in with Ye-chun’s family. While going through her late grandmother’s belongings, she comes across an old camcorder containing footage of Mo-mi participating in a talent competition. Seeing her mother in a moment of joy, performing something she loved, brings tears to her eyes.
