My Life With the Walter Boys Ending Explained: The Love Triangle’s Resolution

A city girl, ten boys, and a life she never expected.

With undeniable similarities to Amazon Prime’s hit love-triangle series The Summer I Turned Pretty, My Life With the Walter Boys seems to be Netflix’s response to the growing popularity of teen romance dramas. Very few Wattpad-to-screen adaptations maintain high standards in terms of production, acting, and execution.

This latest teenage drama challenges that notion with a fresh perspective on the genre. The ten-episode series premiered on Netflix on December 7 and is based on Ali Novak’s 2014 novel, which she originally wrote at just fifteen years old, according to Elle.

The season’s conclusion leaves viewers with mixed reactions, closing on an unresolved note that sparks curiosity about what lies ahead for the characters.

A City Girl’s Life Changes Forever

The story follows Jackie Howard (played by Nikki Rodriguez), a teenager from New York City who experiences a devastating loss when her entire family dies in a tragic car accident.

Forced to start over, Jackie relocates to Silver Falls, Colorado, where she moves in with her late mother’s best friend and her large household, which includes ten boys with different personalities and temperaments.

While adjusting to her new environment, Jackie finds herself caught between two brothers—Alex (Ashby Gentry), who is kind, intelligent, and affectionate, and Cole (Noah LaLonde), a former high school athlete with an undeniable charm.

Initially drawn to Alex, Jackie soon realizes her connection with Cole is just as strong. As secrets from Alex’s past surface, doubts begin to creep in, leading her to turn to Cole in ways that cause tension between the two siblings.

The final episode sees Jackie making a life-changing choice that alters her relationship with the Walters entirely. So, who does she pick?

A Wedding and Complicated Emotions in the Season Finale

The season wraps up with the much-anticipated wedding of Will (Johnny Link) and Haley (Zoë Soul), hosted right on the Walter family ranch. Excited about the event, Will entrusts Jackie with the responsibility of planning the wedding, a task she happily embraces.

While Jackie busies herself with preparations, her wealthy and carefree uncle Richard (Alex Quijano) arrives at the ranch for a deep discussion with Will about the family’s future.

Will proposes an idea to transform the ranch into a countryside retreat, where visitors could engage in activities such as outdoor cooking, guided horse rides, and cider-making. Although no final decision is reached, the conversation hints at the possibility of the ranch evolving into something new and promising.

As the wedding day draws near smoothly, an unexpected moment arises when the family dog ruins Haley’s bouquet, prompting Cole to step in and assist Jackie in gathering fresh flowers.

During their time together, Cole tells Jackie to forget the confession he made to her the night before, insisting that he is happy for her and Alex. Jackie, taken aback by his words, tries to push aside her conflicting emotions, though her struggle is evident.

With the ceremony underway, Will and Haley exchange heartfelt vows, finally putting behind them the misunderstandings that once threatened their relationship. Their love proves strong enough to withstand past disagreements over finances and plans.

As the evening progresses, the wedding reception is filled with joy and celebration. Meanwhile, Alex, after having too much to drink, hesitates to share an important piece of news with Jackie—his decision to leave for the summer. Instead, he ends up confessing his love to her.

Jackie, however, remains silent, unable to reciprocate his feelings. Seeing Alex in distress, Kiley (Mya Lowe) steps in to help him get to bed, but when he casually refers to her as just a “cool dude,” she decides against revealing her feelings for him and walks away without saying another word.

Later that night, while helping Danny (Connor Stanhope) pack for Julliard, Jackie stumbles upon a broken teacup that once belonged to her sister—now carefully mended by Cole. Attached to it is a note with a familiar saying from her mother: “Nothing is so broken that it can’t be fixed.”

Curious about Cole’s true intentions, she confronts him in the barn, questioning whether his actions mean something more. Cole, however, insists there was no hidden motive, reminding her that she was still with Alex at the time.

At that moment, Jackie decides to close the distance between them, kissing Cole in a passionate exchange that confirms their mutual attraction. But what does this mean for Alex?

Will My Life With the Walter Boys Return for a Second Season?

The season finale, titled Happily Ever After, leaves audiences with unresolved questions. Following her intimate moment with Cole, Jackie disappears the next morning before Alex can surprise her with breakfast in bed. Instead, he finds an empty room and a handwritten note that reads, “I’m sorry.”

Furious and confused, Alex rushes to confront Cole, only to realize that his brother is just as shocked by Jackie’s abrupt departure. The closing scene reveals Jackie on a plane heading back to New York with her uncle, leaving fans to wonder about her future.

Is she returning to New York permanently? Will she ever reunite with the Walters? Does she regret betraying Alex? What will become of the ranch? These uncertainties linger, but those familiar with the original Wattpad novel already know that Jackie’s fate has long been left open-ended.

At present, Netflix has not confirmed whether My Life With the Walter Boys will be renewed for a second season. However, this does not necessarily mean the story has come to an end. Ali Novak, the author of the novel, recently addressed the possibility of a follow-up while responding to fan questions on her website:

“In the past, I’ve said there won’t be a published sequel. However, now that the show has been released on Netflix, I may or may not be working on something exciting! Keep your eyes peeled for updates by following me on Twitter and Instagram.”

Although My Life With the Walter Boys follows a storyline that audiences may have seen before, it offers a compelling portrayal of family, relationships, and self-discovery.

While certain aspects, such as grief and emotional depth, could have been handled better, the series presents a heartfelt coming-of-age journey against the backdrop of Colorado’s vast and picturesque countryside.
