In the finale of The Couple Next Door, Episode 6, titled “Crimes of Passion,” Danny (Sam Heughan) finds himself trapped by his own secrets. His wife, Becka (Jessica De Gouw), has discovered that he has a deaf son, Olly, and even arranged a playdate with their own child. With no room left for deception, Danny comes clean to Becka about everything.
Meanwhile, an increasingly unstable Evie (Eleanor Tomlinson) lures Danny to a remote cabin, claiming that her religious cult leader father is holding her hostage. However, her true motive is soon revealed—Evie’s obsession with Danny has reached a breaking point, and she believes they are destined to be together.
Love, Delusion, and Betrayal Collide in a Tense Cabin Confrontation
As Evie executes her manipulative plan, Pete (Alfred Enoch) finally realizes the disturbing extent of her fixation on Danny. Armed with a gun, he sets off to the cabin, where he finds Danny, Becka, and Evie.
In this tense confrontation, the lines between love and delusion become clear—while Danny and Becka, despite their troubled marriage, truly love each other, Pete and Evie are driven by dangerous, unstable emotions. Evie’s belief in a divine connection with Danny fuels her reckless actions, quoting scripture as if it binds them together. Becka, however, already knows all of Danny’s past mistakes and stands firmly by his side.

Amidst the chaos in the cabin, an external threat looms—an assassin, hired by a local corrupt figure, has Danny in his sights. However, before the hitman can take his shot, Evie’s father unexpectedly intervenes and kills him. With tension already high, Pete, furious and desperate, accuses Danny of destroying his marriage.
A struggle for the gun ensues, during which Evie flees the cabin. Pete, still armed, chases after her, and Becka insists on following them. The confrontation escalates when Pete shoots Danny in the leg, only for Evie to deliver a shocking twist—after a quiet, chilling moment, she coldly declares that she no longer loves Pete and shoots him. Realizing what she has done, she collapses in grief, cradling Pete in her arms.
Evie’s Sinister Smile Hints at an Ongoing Obsession and Future Uncertainty
As law enforcement finally arrives, they arrest both Evie and her father. Pete survives the shooting and is taken away in an ambulance. However, the most unsettling moment of the finale comes as Evie is being escorted away by the police. She locks eyes with Danny and flashes a flirtatious smile, leaving the audience questioning her intentions.
Actor Sam Heughan later revealed that an alternate ending had been filmed, where Danny smiled back at Evie, but the creators decided against it, fearing it would take the ambiguity too far. Heughan also hinted that Evie’s obsession is far from over, suggesting that she may still have dangerous plans involving Danny.
While The Couple Next Door has been renewed for a second season by Channel 4, Starz has not yet confirmed its involvement. Interestingly, the upcoming season will not focus on Danny, Evie, Becka, or Pete. Instead, it will introduce a new set of characters, centering around creepy neighbor Alan (Hugh Dennis) and his interactions with a fresh group of residents.
Whether Starz will continue airing the show remains uncertain, particularly given Sam Heughan’s major role in its popularity. Fans will have to wait and see if the psychological thriller continues its eerie storytelling under a new cast and setting.
