Cursed foundations hold secrets too terrifying to reveal.

Mitesh Patel directs and produces Woman in the Maze, a horror film that revolves around a woman’s struggle to escape from a house that refuses to let her go. The plot follows Gabrielle, a real estate agent who moves into Hannah’s house for a short stay in the ghost town of Jerome.

But will Gabbi manage to break free? What led to the house being cursed? Let’s uncover the details.

What Encounters Did Judy Have With Jerome?

Gabrielle’s promotion from project manager to assistant manager at a real estate firm took her to Jerome, a town known for being haunted. Her mission was to sell land in the area, and she arranged to meet Owen Bannister, a real estate agent in Jerome, to help her inspect available properties.

While taking her around, Owen mentions that the Conner Hotel is haunted, explaining that Mrs. Anna Hopkins discovered her husband’s affair with a schoolteacher and, in her rage, threw acid on the woman’s face.

Ever since then, the teacher’s ghost has been haunting the hotel. Another man also shares that a theatre in the town carries a dark past—after a husband caught his wife cheating, he strangled her, and now her spirit lingers there.

Jerome had become synonymous with infidelity and tragic deaths, earning it its ghost town reputation. While browsing through a bookstore, a mysterious woman appears to Gabrielle, warning her that Judy wants her out of Hannah’s house.

When Gabbi asks who Hannah is, the woman vanishes without a trace. Later that night, Gabbi experiences a night-time intrusion, only to realize it’s Owen, who has come to confess his feelings for her. Uninterested, she firmly lets him know she only has a romantic interest in women.

How Did the Nightmares Connect to the House?

During her stay in Hannah’s house, Gabbi repeatedly experiences unsettling nightmares. One particular dream reveals a group of masked individuals chanting incantations in the basement, suggesting that the house was once a site for dark rituals.

She also has visions of a woman she later recognizes as Judy, who seems to be sending her warnings to leave the house. At first, Gabbi dismisses these signs, but they persist. Another vision shows Judy in bed with a man, hinting at a long history of infidelity within the house.

This past betrayal likely led to a violent incident, explaining why the house carries a sinister energy.

What Caused the Curse on the House?

As Gabbi becomes increasingly aware that something is wrong, she attempts to escape, but each effort is futile. Every exit she finds transforms into a wall, preventing her from leaving.

During one of her escape attempts, she injures herself and stumbles into the basement, where she makes a chilling discovery—a corpse lying next to a diary. The diary belonged to Judy, and inside, she had written about cheating on her husband, Angus.

According to her writings, Angus had blamed her for their child’s death, which led her to seek comfort in another man. When Angus uncovered her infidelity, he became vengeful and decided to imprison her in the house. Judy’s attempt to flee ended in tragedy as Angus dragged her back inside and strangled her to death.

In his fury, he used his blood and a doll to place a curse on the house, ensuring that any woman who entered would never leave. This explained why Gabbi was unable to escape—Angus had trapped every woman who set foot inside, as an extension of his anger towards Judy.

Did Gabbi Manage to Escape?

Owen returns to the house in search of Gabbi but gets no response. He later comes back with the police, determined to find her. Together with a female officer, he searches every corner of the house but finds nothing.

Meanwhile, Gabbi can hear them and desperately tries to call for help, but her voice doesn’t reach them. She watches in horror as they turn to leave and, in a desperate move, jumps from the terrace, expecting to land outside. Instead, she falls into another room inside the house.

In that room, she finds another letter from Judy, written to Angus, expressing grief over their lost child. This letter confirms that the house is burdened with unresolved sorrow. Realizing she must take drastic action, she attempts to contact Owen. Unable to reach him through a call, she sends a text before her phone battery dies.

At that moment, Gabbi stumbles upon a ring and the cursed doll. Just as she is about to throw the doll into a fire, she encounters a disturbing sight—her doppelganger. This eerie version of herself tries to manipulate her, insisting that burning the doll will permanently lock the curse inside the house.

The doppelganger tells her that the only way to undo the curse is by offering her own blood. Deceived into believing this, Gabbi unknowingly strengthens the curse by slitting her hand.

The Final Confrontation and the Shocking Truth

Owen, upon seeing Gabbi’s text, rushes back to the house and walks into a violent scene—Gabbi and her doppelganger locked in a fierce struggle. The police officer attempts to intervene but gets struck in the head, resulting in her death.

As the confrontation escalates, the doppelganger tries to shoot Gabbi from behind. Acting fast, Owen grabs a vase and strikes the attacker before escaping the house with who he believes to be Gabbi. A chilling revelation soon emerges—Owen had unknowingly rescued the wrong person.

The real Gabbi remained trapped inside while her doppelganger, the cursed entity, had taken her place. With no other way out, the real Gabbi, overwhelmed by despair, takes her own life. The house, which had already erased all traces of her presence, prepares itself for the next unsuspecting victim.

Much like a Venus flytrap, the house lured women inside and refused to release them until their very use was consumed. Woman in the Maze presents a horror plot unlike any other, offering an eerie take on how betrayal can leave devastating consequences.

Angus’ discovery of his wife’s unfaithfulness drove him to madness, leading him to curse the house in a fit of revenge. His actions ensured that every woman who entered the house would suffer because of one woman’s mistake.

The film, which runs for 1 hour and 40 minutes, is packed with suspense, mystery, and psychological horror, making it a gripping watch for lovers of the genre.
