Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Ending Explained: Sorcerers Lose Their Safety Net

The Shibuya Incident changes the balance of power in the battle between Curses and sorcerers.

The Shibuya Incident began with the Curses and their leader, Suguru Geto, aiming to seal Satoru Gojo. This resulted in massive loss of life, not only among civilians but also among sorcerers trying to stop them. Gojo was Japan’s most powerful sorcerer.

His role went beyond being a safety net for the sorcerer society in Japan—he was a shield for the entire world. While not the only special-grade sorcerer, his strength placed him on a different level from everyone else. Facing Gojo directly would be suicidal.

The Curses devised a strategy where they endangered numerous civilians to force Gojo into a situation where using his full power would risk their lives. They planned to exhaust Gojo physically and mentally so he could be momentarily contained in the Prison Realm, a strategy that succeeded with Geto’s direct involvement.

With Gojo sealed, the world is now in greater danger, and the conflict between the Curses and sorcerers will only intensify. The sealing of the world’s most powerful sorcerer turned the tide of the battle in favor of the Curses. More importantly, the act of sealing Gojo revealed a shocking truth.

What’s Going On With Suguru Geto?

When Gojo was sealed, it became apparent that the leader of the Curses wasn’t Suguru Geto, as initially believed. Fans who watched JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 would recall that the real Geto tried to take Rika, Yuta Okkotsu’s cursed spirit, during the Night Parade of One Hundred Demons.

This attempt failed, and Geto was defeated and killed by his best friend, Satoru Gojo. The Hidden Inventory/Premature Death arc revealed that Gojo and Geto were once very close, but their differing ideologies grew after Riko Amanai’s death at the hands of Toji Fushiguro.

Eventually, Geto’s actions led Gojo to kill him, though his body wasn’t disposed of, allowing a yet unnamed sorcerer to take control and inherit Geto’s Cursed Spirit Manipulation, a power that lets him consume curses.

This sorcerer also took over Noritoshi Kamo’s body and is believed to have created the Cursed Womb: Death Paintings, making him a key figure behind Choso and his siblings, Eso and Kechizu.

How Did the Shibuya Incident End?

The Shibuya Incident was filled with important events, starting with the kidnapping of thousands of civilians during Halloween. The primary objective was to lure and seal Satoru Gojo, but the battle didn’t stop even after his sealing.

Curses continued to wreak havoc, with the most destruction caused by the clash between Jogo and Sukuna (who controlled Yuji Itadori’s body), and later, Sukuna’s battle against Megumi Fushiguro’s powerful shikigami, the Eight-Grip Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga.

The incident saw the deaths of powerful sorcerers, including Kento Nanami, while others like Naobito Zen’in were severely injured. The fates of characters like Nobara Kugisaki remain uncertain. On the Curse side, all but “Pseudo-Geto” and Uraume, a sorcerer with an ice technique, were either killed or incapacitated.

It’s unknown what Uraume’s full role is, but they seem connected to Sukuna. It’s worth noting that Mahito was defeated by Pseudo-Geto, who absorbed his technique for his plans. The final confrontation saw the sorcerers rescued by Yuki Tsukumo, a special-grade sorcerer who once spoke of a world without cursed spirits.

Pseudo-Geto then used Mahito’s Idle Transfiguration to release a massive number of curses in Tokyo. This led to a decision to disclose the existence of curses to the public, claiming they only existed in Tokyo to direct the spread of cursed energy there.

Meanwhile, the higher-ups in the Jujutsu Sorcerer society deemed Gojo an accomplice of Geto, sentenced Principal Masamichi Yaga to death, and revived the death sentence on Yuji Itadori. After returning unexpectedly, Yuta Okkotsu vowed to kill Yuji himself.

What Is Pseudo-Geto/Noritoshi Kamo’s Plan?

Sealing Satoru Gojo wasn’t Pseudo-Geto’s only goal. Mahito, after reaching his full potential and being defeated by Yuji Itadori, provided Pseudo-Geto with the perfect opportunity to steal Mahito’s technique. So, what exactly is Pseudo-Geto’s plan?

The anime doesn’t reveal everything, but from his conversation with Yuki Tsukumo, we can sense his ambitions. Pseudo-Geto aims to accelerate human evolution by refining cursed energy. This goal mirrors the real Geto’s vision of creating a world where only Jujutsu Sorcerers exist.

To achieve this, he activated Mahito’s technique on previously marked non-sorcerers, such as Yuji and others with cursed techniques that don’t possess the sorcerer’s brain structure.

By using Idle Transfiguration, Pseudo-Geto enhanced these non-sorcerers to become vessels for ancient sorcerers with whom he had made pacts, such as Sukuna. He also altered those with cursed techniques to give them the necessary brain structure to utilize cursed energy.

His next step is to pit these new sorcerers and the reincarnated ones against each other in deadly combat. Interestingly, as he explains his plan, we see Megumi Fushiguro’s sister, Tsumiki Fushiguro, awakening in a hospital bed.

How does this play into his goal of advancing human evolution? Yuki Tsukumo suspects that the plan somehow involves Tengen, the being who controls all of Japan’s protective barriers, and was meant to merge with Riko Amanai, the Star Plasma Vessel we met in the Hidden Inventory/Premature Death arc.
