Landman was one of the biggest series launches on Paramount+ in late 2023, quickly becoming one of the streaming platform’s most popular shows. Created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace, the series is part of Sheridan’s expanding universe at Paramount+. With a gripping storyline and a star-studded cast, the show ended its first season with shocking twists and set up a second season even before its official announcement. Now, with Season 2 expected to begin production soon, fans are eager to see how the story continues.
High-Stakes Oil Industry Drama Unfolds Amid Power Struggles and Criminal Conflicts
The series is set in the boomtowns of West Texas and follows the high-stakes world of the oil industry. Based on the Boomtown podcast, Landman presents an upstairs-downstairs dynamic, depicting both the roughneck workers on the ground and the billionaire tycoons controlling the industry. Billy Bob Thornton stars as Tommy Norris, a petroleum landman and the Operations VP at M-Tex, an oil company.
The first season revolves around Tommy’s investigation into a fatal accident, his personal relationships, and the corporate and geopolitical struggles surrounding the oil business. The show also features Jon Hamm as Monty Miller, the owner of M-Tex, and Demi Moore as his wife, Cami Miller, both of whom play significant roles in the unfolding drama.

As the season progresses, Tommy faces a dangerous conflict with a lower-level cartel leader, Jiminez, who is angered by M-Tex’s operations—particularly after a drug van is accidentally blown up by the National Guard. This leads to Tommy being kidnapped and tortured by the cartel.
However, the cartel’s true leader, Galino (played by Andy Garcia), intervenes, killing Jiminez and his men before releasing Tommy. Galino proposes a working relationship with Tommy, setting the stage for a complex alliance in the future. This dynamic will likely play a significant role in the upcoming season as Tommy navigates both the oil business and the cartel’s influence.
Monty’s Death Reshapes M-Tex Leadership and Sets Up Power Struggles Ahead
A major turning point in Landman comes with the death of Monty Miller. Although his death isn’t explicitly shown, the final moments of Season 1 depict his family mourning as he flatlines in the hospital. His passing leaves a power vacuum at M-Tex, and Tommy suggests that Cami sell the company. However, Cami decides to carry on her husband’s legacy and assumes a leadership role, making Tommy the new president of M-Tex.
With this shift, Cami is set to have a much larger presence in Season 2, as she and Tommy work together to keep the company afloat. Tommy also brings back Rebecca (Kayla Wallace) to negotiate new deals, further setting up power struggles and alliances for the next season.
Season 2 of Landman was officially announced on March 17, with Billy Bob Thornton and Demi Moore taking center stage. Reports indicate that Jon Hamm had only signed on for one season, and Sheridan had always planned for Moore’s character, Cami, to become more prominent in the second season. Additionally, the upcoming season will introduce Sam Elliott as a new main character, adding even more star power to the cast.
Returning cast members include Andy Garcia, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chávez, Wallace, Mark Collie, James Jordan, and Colm Feore. With new conflicts, shifting power dynamics, and expanded character arcs, Season 2 is shaping up to be even bigger and more intense than the first.
