A futuristic concept takes center stage in Restore Point, a Czech sci-fi thriller directed by Robert Hloz. The story is set in the year 2041 when advancements in technology have made it possible for people to revive themselves after experiencing violent deaths—provided they back up their biometric data every 48 hours.
The introduction of a radical group known as the River of Life brings chaos into this world. Strongly opposed to the technology, the group resorts to terrorism to disrupt society. The film hit cinemas in the Czech Republic on September 21, 2023.

According to IMDb, the official plot synopsis states: “Set in central Europe during 2041, a female detective investigates the case of a murdered couple where a restoration team can bring one of them back to life.”
Emma, a determined detective seeking justice after her husband becomes a victim of this technological conflict, is at the heart of the film. As events play out, themes of love and grief are woven into the storyline, offering a deeper perspective on what it means to be human.
Plot and Ending of Restore Point
As Restore Point draws to a close, Detective Emma Trochinowska continues her investigation into a world where science has found a way to defy death. A terrorist attack carried out by the River of Life leads to the deaths of David Kurlstat and his wife, but David is revived using an older backup.
Further findings reveal that Rohan, the head of the Restore Point Institute, has been tampering with restore points for his gain. Digging deeper, Emma and her team uncover his involvement in illegal dealings, including cryptocurrency-related crimes.
A tragic twist occurs when David is killed again, this time by one of Rohan’s henchmen, while Emma is also shot. Eventually, the detective team discovers that the password to David’s digital database is “Florence,” the name of his late daughter. His wife had chosen that name before their lives took a tragic turn.
Though Emma is killed, her biometric backup allows her to return to life and reunite with her team. With Rohan finally caught and imprisoned, she and her boss reflect on David’s character, acknowledging his genuine desire to save lives.
Later, Emma hands over David’s restoration tape, revealing that he unknowingly took a life. Because his last backup was four days earlier, he struggles to remember the incident. Choosing to protect him, Emma keeps this information from her colleagues.
By doing this, she conceals David’s sacrifice, recognizing that his actions were driven by a greater purpose. With Rohan now behind bars, she comes to terms with the difficult moral choices she has made. In the final moments of the film, both David and Emma are restored.
However, David carries the burden of knowing he is responsible for someone’s death, while Emma silently grapples with the weight of covering up a murder. The one-hour, 51-minute movie examines corporate greed and the depths of human consciousness.
