The next day, Pete makes his way to Evie’s parents’ home, convinced she has run off with Danny after a tip-off from a neighbor. Meanwhile, Jean (Kate Robbins) crosses paths with Becka, leading to a moment of solidarity between them.

However, just before he can pull the trigger, a sudden gunshot rings out from inside—the blast coming from Evie’s father’s shotgun. Despite being deeply unsettled by his daughter’s actions, he listens to his wife and rushes to protect her from Pete’s wrath, only to find himself face-to-face with an unexpected threat.
The first gunshot triggers chaos inside the cottage, causing another shot to go off during a struggle between Danny and Pete over the gun. One by one, each person bolts from the cottage into the darkened woods—Evie is the first to flee the violence, followed closely by Pete in pursuit of her.
