The Gentlemen Ending Explained: A Twisted Finale Full of Shocking Choices and Unseen Alliances

Suzie's discovery leads to a deadly path of retaliation.

The tension between Eddie and Suzie escalates after Suzie feels betrayed by Eddie for his involvement with Stanley Johnston (played by Giancarlo Esposito). Suzie then reveals to Gospel John (Pearce Quigley) the truth behind her brother Tommy Dixon’s (Peter Serafinowicz) death.

With his gang at his back, Gospel John heads to Halstead Manor in the final episode, intending to get revenge on Eddie and Freddy. By this time, however, Suzie is unaware that Eddie has already met with her father, Bobby.

Eddie approached Stanley pretending to seek help to break away from Bobby’s influence. In exchange for the names of other lords on Bobby’s payroll, Stanley promises Eddie that his family will be allowed to leave when he takes over.

But as Eddie uncovers Stanley’s betrayal of Bobby, he starts to doubt his loyalty. Eddie chooses to side with Bobby and gives Stanley a false list of names. By the time Suzie realizes her mistake, she has already triggered the wrath of Gospel John.

At a critical moment, Bobby intervenes to save Eddie and his family from Gospel John’s fury. Toward the end of The Gentlemen, Bobby presents Eddie and Suzie with a final assignment, asking them to set aside their differences.

Bobby claims he wants to retire and sell his business, and Eddie and Suzie are tasked with finding buyers. The list of potential buyers includes Stanley Johnston, Mercy Moreno (Martha Millan) from a Colombian cartel, and Peter Spencer-Forbes (Joshua McGuire) from the Russian mafia.

Eddie Makes a Shocking Choice in Episode 8 of ‘The Gentlemen’

A surprising turn occurs in The Gentlemen when Eddie decides to ally with other aristocrats to purchase Bobby’s business. Eddie had already started enjoying a life out of the public eye, away from the responsibilities of being a duke.

After a conversation with Freddy, who struggles to succeed where Eddie excels, Eddie becomes convinced that his potential lies in taking a different path than the previous dukes of Halstead. Eddie also offers Suzie and Henry Collins a partnership to raise the necessary funds for the bid.

With enough money to make a competitive offer, Eddie and Suzie must now compete against others for Bobby’s empire.

Bobby Glass Was Silently Laying the Path for Eddie and Suzie

In Episode 8, “The Gospel According to Bobby Glass,” Eddie and Suzie initially lose the bid to Stanley, despite their best efforts. But Eddie still has a plan up his sleeve. Using his connection with Collins, he tracks down Stanley’s hidden illegal wealth, turning him into the authorities, which lands Stanley in prison.

Eddie then eliminates the other competitors by sowing discord between them. He convinces Mercy that if Spencer is removed, she will win the bid, and when Spencer is killed, Eddie sends Collins to deal with Mercy, leaving only Collins to be handled by Eddie in the finale.

Before Eddie can enjoy the satisfaction of executing his master plan, Bobby reveals his true motives. In the final moments of The Gentlemen, Bobby admits that he never intended to sell the business. His goal all along was to make Eddie and Suzie more invested in it.

Earlier in the season, Bobby told Suzie that if Eddie didn’t change his mind about leaving the business, he would have to kill him. By the end of the bidding war, as Bobby had planned, Eddie is more involved than ever. To seal his commitment, Eddie personally kills Henry Collins, despite Suzie’s offering to help.

‘The Gentlemen’ Season 1 Finale Hints at More Stanley Johnston in the Future

The finale of The Gentlemen sets up an intriguing future for Eddie and Suzie as they work to expand Bobby Glass’s empire, now that most competitors are out of the way. Bobby had orchestrated everything behind the scenes, with Eddie and Suzie unknowingly carrying out his plans.

However, Guy Ritchie saves one last twist for the end when it’s revealed that Stanley Johnston has been placed in the same luxurious prison controlled by Bobby Glass. Throughout the first season, Stanley and Bobby never meet, even though Stanley tries to take control of Bobby’s empire.

Up until the finale, it seemed that Stanley, once seemingly invincible, had been easily removed from the scene. Yet, in the pre-credits scene, we see Stanley and Bobby preparing for a meal together, hinting at a future collaboration.

This sets the stage for a potential alliance in Season 2, leaving fans eager to see how Stanley will continue to influence the story.
