Better Call Saul Season 2 Ending Explained: Jimmy’s Struggles and Betrayals

In season 2, Jimmy’s decision to stay away from the Davis & Main job is tested as he ends up working there, and the tension between him and Kim intensifies. Kim makes an important decision by leaving HHM to start her independent practice, which she runs in the shared office space with Jimmy.

While she maintains a professional boundary, the bond between them grows as they pull off a scam on a rich businessman, convincing him to buy large quantities of expensive liquor. Though they intended it as a fun diversion, they ended up enjoying it more than expected.

Early on, Kim’s closeness to Jimmy results in HHM relegating her to menial tasks like document review. Despite her efforts, she secures Mesa Verde Bank as a client for the firm. However, HHM ignores her contributions and takes the Mesa Verde case without crediting her.

Feeling unappreciated, Kim quits and sets up her practice. The ensuing battle for Mesa Verde escalates into a personal and professional rivalry with HHM. Meanwhile, Chuck, despite his sensitivity to electromagnetic forces, chooses to undermine Kim’s abilities in a series of meetings to secure the case for HHM.

Jimmy, on the other hand, struggles with the structured environment at Davis & Main. He faces criticism from his boss, Cliff Main, for running an unsanctioned TV ad about the Sandpiper case. His rebellious nature stands in stark contrast to the formalities of corporate law.

Instead of quitting outright, Jimmy agitates the firm with minor grievances until they fire him. Kim is disappointed with his behavior, especially after he refuses to commit to “playing it straight,” but Jimmy insists that he can only succeed if he remains true to himself.

He confesses that he has spent too much time trying to meet others’ expectations, whether it was Chuck’s or hers. He wants to remain “colorful,” which leads Kim to clarify that she values him, just not as a legal partner. However, their romance continues to grow, and so does their taste for mischief.

How Does Better Call Saul Season 2 End?

Chuck’s growing suspicion of Jimmy pushes him to cover his tracks. In the second-to-last episode, he revisits the copy center where Jimmy altered the documents. There, Jimmy runs into Ernesto, Chuck’s intern, who speaks with the clerk who assisted Jimmy.

The clerk, aware of the situation, refuses to give Jimmy away. Once Ernesto leaves, Jimmy pays the clerk for keeping quiet. He stays around, anticipating Chuck’s arrival, which happens soon after.

However, the strong electromagnetic presence in the copy center overwhelms Chuck, causing him to faint and hit his head on the counter, knocking himself out.

Knowing that helping his brother will expose his actions, Jimmy rushes to Chuck’s side. Chuck is taken to the hospital, where the doctor suggests that his condition is a mental illness, rather than a physical one and that he might require psychiatric care.

Despite the offer of power over his brother’s decisions, Jimmy honors Chuck’s wishes and releases him to his home, free of electricity.

After everything settles down, Chuck confesses to Jimmy that his mistake in handling the Mesa Verde case has made him doubt his mental state. He admits that he no longer trusts his abilities as a lawyer and plans to retire.

Wanting Kim to have Mesa Verde but not to end his brother’s career, Jimmy confesses to tampering with the paperwork. As Jimmy leaves, Chuck reveals a hidden tape recorder, exposing that he had recorded Jimmy’s confession, taking advantage of his brother’s concern for him.
