Dange Ending Explained: Rivalries, Politics, and Redemption

Xavier's rise to popularity ended in a downfall fueled by addiction and poor choices.

Bejoy Nambiar has gained recognition in recent years for creating stories for both streaming platforms and cinemas. As a writer-director, his reputation is built on looking into unique and engaging topics. However, he sometimes goes overboard with his ambitious ideas, causing the movie or show to spiral out of control.

Dange, which translates to ‘riots’, is a film Nambiar directed ambitiously, along with a Tamil version called Por, which mirrors the plot of the Hindi film. Set in Goa, Dange assesses the rivalry between two men whose conflict stems from a past encounter, which resurfaces when they meet years later at St. Martin’s University.

Was Xavier a popular student at the university?

Xavier Coutinho had gained popularity during his final year in medicine at the university. He was known for indulging in heavy narcotics and recreational drugs, which disrupted his academic progress, preventing him from completing his degree.

His addiction led him to attend his final presentation under the influence, which caused his downfall.

Why was Yuvaraj trying to get support in college?

Yuvaraj, also known as Yuva, was a first-year student at the university who became a target of ragging by several seniors. Despite the pressure, he stood his ground, refusing to bow down to their demands. In doing so, he began to rally support from his juniors, earning their respect.

He eventually stood up to the seniors who tried to corner him at various spots on campus. His boldness surprised the seniors, who decided to leave him alone.

What was the conflict between Gayathri and Siddhi?

Gayathri was a political student leader, co-founding the Awaaz party with her friend Ambika. Their goal was to represent those from lower castes who faced discrimination on campus. Siddhi, another student leader, was the daughter of a powerful Goan politician.

Her involvement in college politics was seen as a stepping stone for her future political career, and she had support both inside and outside the university. At one point, Siddhi and Ambika had a romantic relationship, but after their breakup, they found themselves at odds while competing for the position of general secretary.

What was the history between Yuvaraj and Xavier?

Xavier and Yuvaraj’s history dates back to their school days in a boarding school. Yuvaraj had always looked up to Xavier, who took care of him like a big brother since they both lived in the school hostel away from their parents.

However, Xavier failed to protect Yuvaraj when he was molested by older students in the dormitory. This traumatic experience was never addressed by Xavier, leaving Yuvaraj with deep resentment. Although Xavier carried guilt for years, he never had the chance to apologize, as Yuvaraj had left the school before that.

When they later met again in university, Yuvaraj wasn’t interested in forgiveness and sought revenge for the scarred childhood he had endured.

Why did Ambika disappear from the campus?

Ambika’s candidacy in the college elections posed a serious threat to Siddhi’s political ambitions. While Siddhi was committed to winning fairly, Gayathri learned that Ambika had been forced to withdraw after being attacked by Bosco, Siddhi’s associate.

Bosco had poured acid over Ambika’s arms, leaving her terrified and unable to return. Gayathri and Yuvaraj traveled to Karwar, where Ambika had fled, to uncover the truth behind her disappearance.

Who was the common link between Rishika, Gayathri, and Xavier?

Yuvaraj began to uncover the dynamics surrounding those close to Xavier. He discovered that Rishika, Xavier’s best friend, had a brother named Kabir, who tragically took his own life. Gayathri had been in a relationship with Kabir, and his death deeply affected her.

Meanwhile, Xavier was burdened with guilt for not helping Kabir during his depression. A few years after Kabir’s death, Xavier confessed his feelings to Gayathri, and though unsure, she agreed to give the relationship a chance.

Did Rishika confess her love to Yuvaraj?

Rishika and Yuvaraj grew closer as they spent time together, initially bonding over their shared indulgence in recreational drugs. Despite Yuvaraj being younger than her, they enjoyed each other’s company and eventually expressed their feelings for one another.

What caused friction between Yuvaraj and Xavier?

A breakup between two juniors, Bala and Ritu, triggered a series of events that led to a rift between Yuvaraj and Xavier. During the college festival, which was organized by the juniors this year, Bala became increasingly insecure and physically assaulted Ritu.

The confrontation escalated into a larger conflict between the juniors and seniors. Yuvaraj, intent on continuing his vendetta against Xavier, became involved in protecting Bala, preventing the young man from apologizing to Ritu. This decision fueled tension with Xavier and led to their ongoing feud.

Why were Siddhi and Gayathri at loggerheads?

As the general secretary elections approached, Siddhi and Gayathri found themselves at odds. Siddhi denied any involvement in the attack on Ambika, blaming it entirely on Bosco. Despite her reluctance to dive deeply into politics, Siddhi, influenced by her father, was determined to pursue the position.

Bosco, meanwhile, was bent on using Siddhi and her father’s power to further his ambitions, which often caused trouble for Siddhi. When the election campaign became too volatile, Siddhi and Gayathri decided to take their efforts off-campus to avoid a major confrontation.

Yuvaraj and Xavier’s lingering conflict

Yuvaraj’s anger towards Xavier for not intervening during the abuse he suffered at school was still unresolved. His unresolved pain led him to refuse Xavier’s attempts to seek forgiveness.

As tensions escalated, Yuvaraj’s bitterness intensified, and the men’s clash grew more personal, leaving Rishika hoping for a peaceful resolution. However, both men were too consumed by their grievances to reconcile.

The violent culmination of the campus conflict

After the festival ended, Xavier and his senior group arrived on campus to confront Yuvaraj and his supporters. A brutal fight broke out, eventually causing a riot-like situation at the beach where Gayathri and her team were about to begin their campaign speech.

In the chaos, Bosco took matters into his own hands, aiming to eliminate Gayathri, believing that her death would clear the path for Siddhi to win the election. Bosco’s actions led to Gayathri’s throat being slit, which ended the riot.

Xavier stayed by her side, showing his genuine affection and remorse for the events that had been revealed.

What happens to Gayathri?

Dange ends with Gayathri surviving her injuries, and her recovery becomes a symbol of her strength and resilience. Her ordeal garners her sympathy, giving her political prospects an important boost.

Siddhi, however, faces arrest due to her involvement with Bosco, which causes her father’s political ambitions for her to crumble. Gayathri, along with Xavier, Rishika, and Yuvaraj, makes an appearance to the students from the hospital, signaling her return to the political scene.

Despite their past conflict, Yuvaraj and Xavier put aside their differences to support Gayathri, realizing that it was more important to protect each other than to hold onto old grudges. The conclusion is a reflection of Yuva, but with a less intense, more hopeful resolution.
