1923 Season 1 Ending Explained: Teonna’s Flight, Spencer’s Separation, and New Trouble for the Dutton Ranch

Teonna rises from heartbreak with fire in her eyes.

The season’s second-to-last episode brought a tragic fight involving two priests, which left Teonna (Aminah Nieves) battered and led to Hank’s (Michael Greyeyes) death. As the finale starts, she regains consciousness in the care of her father and Hank’s son.

Even though she is back with her family, danger is still very close. Father Renaud (Sebastian Roché) has now joined the pursuit to capture her and even tells the authorities that her cousin has died, pointing them to a graveyard full of children who suffered at the hands of the boarding school.

To escape the danger, Teonna and her family decide to head south, where they hope to find safety among another tribe. But once Renaud comes across his brothers’ remains, he quickly realises where they are headed and makes plans to arrive there first by train.

Teonna has endured more pain and hardship than anyone else in the series, and the road ahead appears just as difficult. Even with her father and Hank’s son beside her, she still faces serious threats, especially with Renaud determined to catch her.

If Season 2 gives her a chance to reconnect with her people and live without constantly fighting to survive, her story could develop in powerful ways. Viewers will be watching closely to see if she finally gets a moment of peace.

Spencer and Alexandra Are Separated Again at the End of ‘1923’ Season 1

Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) and Alexandra (Julia Schlaepfer) were expected to make it safely to the Yellowstone ranch before the season ended, but things didn’t go as planned.

After managing to get proper transport back to London on a ship far better than the one they previously boarded, they unexpectedly run into Alex’s former fiancé and his family. Spencer initially tries to stay calm, but when Arthur (Rafe Soule) pushes him too far, he agrees to a duel.

The sword fight ends with Arthur humiliated, but when he suddenly pulls out a pistol and charges at Spencer, he is thrown overboard and dies. His wealthy family wastes no time using their power to punish Spencer and Alex. Spencer ends up locked up, while Alex is confined to her cabin as the ship heads to land.

Fortunately, someone from Alex’s past steps in and helps convince the captain that Spencer acted in self-defence, leading to the charges being dropped. Still, Arthur’s father ensures Spencer is removed from the ship. Alex is forced to stay onboard, as doubts about their marriage are raised.

As Spencer is being taken to shore in a small boat, Alex promises to meet him later in Bozeman. Their emotional farewell plays out across the water. This couple has never had it easy, and just when it seemed they were close to their destination, fate struck again.

With the show’s refusal to rush their journey, likely, their reunion in Season 2 will likely not happen quickly. Sklenar has already hinted that Spencer will go through serious changes next season, with the possibility of him becoming more hardened and less hopeful.

For Alex, who has mostly relied on Spencer up till now, making her way alone to Montana will bring its challenges. Their separate paths in Season 2 could reveal new sides to both characters.

Whitfield Makes His First Big Move Against the Duttons in the ‘1923’ Finale

Jacob (Harrison Ford) and Creighton (Jerome Flynn) are already at each other’s throats when Creighton is released while awaiting more evidence. Inside the courtroom, it’s clear both men see each other as enemies.

But Whitfield (Timothy Dalton) presents a more ruthless plan for hurting the Dutton family without using violence. Over the last few episodes, Whitfield has shown just how cold and ambitious he is—possibly the most dangerous opponent the Duttons have ever faced.

Now, Jacob and Cara (Helen Mirren) must deal with not just physical threats, but financial ones as well. The ranch itself is under pressure, with Jacob unable to raise money to feed the cattle during winter, especially now that modern banking methods make it harder to access loans.

The troubles on the ranch don’t stop there. Elizabeth (Michelle Randolph) loses her pregnancy, and one of the ranch workers is attacked while his wife is arrested, simply because of their interracial marriage—a move influenced by Whitfield.

And Whitfield’s plan becomes even clearer when he goes directly to Jacob and informs him that he has covered the Yellowstone’s property tax. If Jacob doesn’t repay him by year’s end, the ranch title will belong to Whitfield.

What lies ahead looks like serious conflict, and Jacob and Cara will need to rely heavily on their bond and strength if they want to protect their land and people from what’s coming. The final episode of 1923 packed in major developments and left viewers with even more problems unresolved than before.

With so much hanging in the balance, fans are eager to see how things will progress when Season 2 begins, especially concerning the futures of Spencer, Teonna, the Dutton family, and everyone else trying to survive in a fast-changing time.
