One can’t help but admit that the last two episodes of Outer Range on Amazon Prime took a turn that truly scrambled the mind, maybe in a way that Westworld fans might understand. This series, blending science fiction with cowboy life, made a strong impression.
Tom Pelphrey, playing Perry Abbott, truly carried his role with presence and power. With that said, the ending of the first season raised close to a hundred questions while resolving only a handful. Season Two can’t arrive quickly enough.

Trying to analyse all the strange happenings, twists, visions, and time-jumping events packed into this series finale feels like trying to solve a puzzle with half the pieces missing. What follows is not an attempt to give perfect answers but rather a personal and highly speculative take on what has just happened.
This finale did not hold back in any way.
I’ll Take Amy Growing Up to Be a Time-Traveling Cultist For ₦500, Alex
That final twist came with full force—young Amy turning into Autumn, the woman obsessed with the Hole and its mysterious pull, who just might be a cult leader. Her transformation becomes clear after she’s trampled by a stampede of buffalo, and Royal discovers her lifeless body.
It’s the scar on her forehead that tells him the truth: she is Amy, now fully grown. At the same time, young Amy disappears during Rhett’s bull-riding event, taken away by her long-missing mother, Rebecca. The way Rebecca moves suggests that she knows more than she’s saying.
Whether she’s the one who sets Amy down the path to becoming Autumn or if another journey lies ahead is still uncertain.
1886, Not a Yellowstone Prequel
Royal, who has always come across as emotionally distant, is actually from the year 1886. This truth comes out when he tells Perry in Episode Seven that after killing his father by accident, he jumped into the Hole and came out about fifty years in the future.

It’s a detail he chose to keep quiet for a long time. Now, what stands out is what comes next for Royal. Two different time-related visions suggest that he dies in Cecilia’s arms. On top of that, the land that belongs to the Abbott family may eventually be taken over by a company conducting strange research on the Hole.
Could Amy’s death push Royal into time travel again to try to fix things? Could it lead to his end? The finale doesn’t make any of that clear.
Thank God, Tom Pelphrey Told Us Why Perry Jumped in the Hole
When Perry willingly jumps into the Hole in Episode Seven, his reason for doing so isn’t explained right away. This is where a bit of real-life information comes in handy. In a chat with Tom Pelphrey himself, he shared what he believes was Perry’s reason for the leap.
According to Pelphrey, Perry was looking at his father’s experience: Royal jumped, and what followed was that he met his wife and built a wonderful family. Perry, who loved his wife deeply, likely hoped to reach her again by taking the same step.
For now, that explanation brings a bit of peace. But at the same time, it’s the kind of finale that leaves enough loose ends to make anyone lose sleep thinking about what’s going on.
