Parasyte The Grey Ending Explained: What Happens to Su-in and Heidi?

Trust is tested as Heidi takes control in the battle for survival.

Won-Seok, a member of Team Grey, had secretly become one of the parasites’ greatest supporters. Although human, he aligned himself with these monstrous creatures, driven by his greed. However, in the final moments of Parasyte: The Grey Episode 6, the Pastor takes control of his body after severing his head.

It is then that Su-in appears and allows Heidi to take over her body to confront the parasitic Won-Seok. Not long after, Choi Jun-Kyung arrives, unknowingly aiming her shotgun at Su-in, unaware that a parasite lurks behind her.

Upon spotting the creature, Heidi, now in Su-in’s body, decides to decapitate it, saving Team Grey’s leader. Just as Choi is about to fire at Su-in, she realizes that Won-Seok is a parasite and that he has been trying to get her to kill Su-in.

Choi, therefore, shoots Won-Seok instead of Su-in. Before handing back control of the body to Su-in, Heidi reveals to Choi how the human host taught her to trust others, even though not everyone she loves is deserving of that trust. The parasite assures Choi that it has no intention of harming humans.

Parasites Decide to Hunt the Mayor

The main aim of the parasitic invasion on Earth is revealed to be more than simply consuming human brains. The true goal is to seize control of the human leadership, which would enable them to dominate humanity. With this in mind, the parasite in Cheol-Min’s body plans to target the mayor during a massive music event.

Su-in and Kang-Woo are determined to stop this from happening, so they attend the event. However, this time, they are not alone in their mission. Kyung-Hee, Kang-Woo’s older sister, joins them after being betrayed by Cheol-Min’s parasite.

Kyung-Hee Gets Killed

In a previous episode, while traveling on a bus, Kyung-Hee witnesses Cheol-Min killing one of their kind, making her realize the true meaning of betrayal. This prompts her to approach Su-in and offer her help in taking down Cheol-Min and Won-Seok.

Initially, Kang-Woo disagrees with the plan, but he eventually agrees to join them. At the music event, Kang-Woo focuses on protecting the mayor, while Su-in and Kyung-Hee try to evade Choi. However, when they are caught by Team Grey’s leader, Su-in decides to create a distraction to buy time for Kyung-Hee.

As Su-in faces off against Choi, Won-Seok helps the Pastor get closer to the mayor. The creature kills the mayor’s security, but just as it prepares to attack the mayor, Kyung-Hee intervenes. She urges Kang-Woo to escape with the mayor, but is shot from behind by Won-Seok.

As she dies, she asks for forgiveness from Kang-Woo.

Su-in and Kang-Woo Return to Their Normal Life

After the parasites are dealt with, Su-in resumes her work as a supermarket clerk. One day, while sitting outside the supermarket, Kang-Woo approaches her and tells her that Choi has made him a member of Team Grey. Kang-Woo also mentions that Heidi left a letter for Su-in, which he begins to read aloud.

As he gets emotional, he hands the letter to Su-in for her to finish reading. Before leaving, Kang-Woo informs Su-in that Choi wants her to join the team as well.

Who is Shinichi in Parasyte: The Grey?

In the final moments of the show, a journalist arrives at Team Grey’s headquarters to meet Choi. The journalist introduces himself as Shinichi, and the camera shifts its focus to his hand. For those who are familiar with Parasyte: The Maxim, Shinichi was the protagonist of the original manga and anime series.

Shinichi undergoes a similar journey to Su-in, becoming a mutant. His parasite, Migi, helps him fight off other monsters. Unlike Heidi, Migi can communicate directly with Shinichi through his right hand, allowing them to converse whenever needed. This explains why the series ends with a close-up of Shinichi’s hand.

Fans have always known that Parasyte: The Grey is connected to The Maxim, but the appearance of Shinichi was a surprise. Choi later reveals that South Korea is the only country that has formed an organization dedicated to studying and combating parasites.

This may be the reason why Shinichi took notice of Team Grey after his battle with the parasites in his own country.
