Evan is waiting in his police car for his friend Ray, as they prepare to attend a reunion party hosted by their high school friend, Mathew. Mathew comes from a wealthy background and has gained even more fame and fortune over time.
While Ray tries to stop Evan from playing games on his phone, a car speeds past them, and Ray urges Evan to follow and stop the car, since it’s his duty as a police officer. When Evan eventually catches up to the car, he discovers the driver is Jasmine, an old high school friend. She is also heading to Matthew’s place.

Evan tries to get closer to Jasmine, who, finding no one else to connect with, decides to spend more time with him. Most of her high school friends are either married or pregnant, and she doesn’t share much in common with them.
Meanwhile, Ray and Megan get into a heated argument that escalates into a fight, as Ray, still bitter about their past, feels jealous when he sees Megan getting too close to Mathew. Ray’s actions spark anger in Megan, who storms off. Evan attempts to calm Ray, explaining that it was his fault for starting the drama.
Later, a mysterious woman approaches Evan, telling him that he was a good person in high school and should enjoy himself for what’s to come. Moments later, the same woman introduces herself as Vivian, revealing that she had been seen as a lost cause in high school but is now successful in her way, boasting about her expensive shoes.
Vivian begins to rant, claiming Mathew used to mock her appearance and made cruel comments about her during their school years. This leaves everyone uncomfortable, as they realize she is too drunk to understand the gravity of her words.
What Happens to Matthew?
When the party is at its peak, the lights suddenly go out, and Mathew takes Evan with him to restore power. He also shows Evan the bear costume he plans to wear to the party.
As a storm looms, the guests begin to leave, leaving behind only Evan, Ray, Jasmine, Amanda, Vivian, and their old history teacher, Theodore Buckley. The following morning, Jasmine discovers Mathew’s lifeless body in his bed, screaming in terror.
Evan and the others rush to the scene, where Amanda immediately accuses Vivian, who had been acting strangely since her arrival. Soon, everyone starts blaming one another, but Evan steps in, trying to keep the peace.
As there is no phone reception and the landline isn’t working due to the storm, Evan suggests they wait until it comes back online to call for help.
What Role Does Amanda Play in This Murder?
Evan and Ray return to Mathew’s room to shut the window that’s been left open all night, causing the house to become cold. Inside the wardrobe, they find bullet holes. Soon after, Evan discovers Megan’s body outside the house.
He tells the group that to find the killer, they need to locate the weapon first, which leads to a discovery of Amanda trying to destroy a video cassette. As they investigate, they realize the tape was recorded by Mathew in the past, and Amanda’s desperate attempt to destroy it reveals a possible motive.
Amanda explains that she was being blackmailed about the contents of the tape, which led her to cut the power during the party. If she did this, the blackmailer would reveal the secret behind the cassette.
Soon, Jasmine uncovers that Mathew had been defrauding people, including Theodore Buckley, who is now another suspect. Jasmine, being sent by her media agency to investigate Mathew’s shady dealings, also has a reason to want him dead. It becomes clear that several people have motives to kill Matthew.
The Backstory of Evan’s Frustration
Evan, once a promising sportsman in high school, had his dreams crushed when Mathew injured him before a critical game, destroying his future as an athlete. Now, Mathew is living the life of success, while Evan is a struggling police officer.

At the film’s climax, Evan finds a shoe that matches the footprints outside the house. Earlier, Megan’s earrings had been discovered in Ray’s pocket.
Ray admits to not wanting Megan involved in the mess, despite their complicated history. However, he is unable to explain the evidence linking him to the crime. When Jasmine is attacked by the killer, the group decides to turn Ray over to the police.
The landline starts working, and Mathew’s wife, Lisa, arrives with the police.
The Final Twist: Who Killed Matthew?
In a shocking turn, Ray grabs a police officer’s gun and demands silence, as he reveals he now knows who killed Mathew. Ray explains that during the power outage, Lisa returned to the house and hid herself until she confronted Mathew. Just as he was about to put on his bear costume, Lisa shot him.
She then found Megan hiding in the closet, waiting for Mathew, and witnessed her death. Ray reveals that Lisa had an accomplice—Evan. It turns out that Evan and Lisa were having an affair, and together, they planned to kill Mathew, take his wealth, and escape.
Evan, trying to cover his tracks, switches shoes with Ray and disposes of Megan’s body. As the film concludes, Evan reveals his motive: jealousy and the desire for a better life. He had never forgiven Mathew for ruining his sports career and felt entitled to the success Mathew had.
Lisa’s motive is less clear but seems to stem from her dissatisfaction with Matthew’s lifestyle. Evan gets the chance to live the life he always felt he deserved, though it comes at a deadly cost.
