For those who grew up watching television during the 1980s, chances are high that The Fall Guy held a regular slot on your weekly schedule. Back then, the show followed Lee Majors as a rugged stuntman in Hollywood who doubled as a bounty hunter on the side, before such dual careers became popular.
Now, over four decades later, the title has been revived as a big-budget movie helmed by director David Leitch, keeping the central idea of stunt work alive while reshaping nearly everything else around it. This time, Ryan Gosling steps into the spotlight as Colt Seavers.

A seasoned stunt professional who has climbed the industry ladder to become the main double for the controversial film star Tom Ryder (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson). An accident on set knocks Seavers out of the profession.
But he gets pulled back in when he learns that Ryder’s new movie is being directed by none other than his ex-girlfriend, Jody Moreno (Emily Blunt). Desperate to reconnect after their painful breakup, Seavers heads to Australia, hoping to restart things—but everything goes sideways from there.
A Disappearance and a Dangerous Setup
The first major problem is Ryder’s mysterious disappearance in the middle of filming. Concerned about production delays, Ryder’s producing partner, Gail Meyer (Hannah Waddingham), discreetly brings Seavers on board to locate the missing actor and prevent a complete collapse of the project.
What follows is a wild series of chases and mix-ups across Sydney, with Seavers trying to piece together what Ryder has gotten tangled up in.
What happens at the end of The Fall Guy?
As Seavers begins to unravel the details behind Ryder’s shadowy dealings, including ties to drugs, violence, and even murder, he finds himself in danger. Thugs working with Ryder attempt to frame Seavers for the crimes their boss committed.
To escape the heat and buy some time, Seavers fakes his death, then sneaks back onto Jody’s film set. There, he tells her the full story: Ryder has been hiding a criminal lifestyle, and Gail has been setting him up to take the fall.
Working together, Seavers and Jody set up a clever plan. They manage to get Ryder back on set for a dangerous stunt, making sure he’s wearing a microphone, in hopes of getting him to confess. The goal is to force the truth out of him and clear Seavers’ name.
A Climactic Fall and a Fresh Start
On a dusty outdoor location, Seavers, his close friend and stunt coordinator Dan Tucker (Winston Duke), and the rest of the stunt crew prepare a helicopter stunt that unnerves Ryder enough to make him spill everything on tape.

Just when the confession is secured, things spiral again. Gail and Ryder attempt a getaway in the helicopter, taking the evidence with them. Seavers doesn’t back down. He leaps onto the chopper, holding on as it takes off.
Eventually, he lets go in a dramatic fall that ends with him landing safely on a crash mat, audio recording still in hand. The moment leads straight into a Hollywood-style reunion kiss between him and Jody.
With the dust settled, Ryder gets cut from the movie and replaced by Jason Momoa, who steps into the leading role of Moreno’s sci-fi adventure film, Metalstorm. The new version of the film earns a positive reaction from fans, with a teaser trailer playing for a full crowd at San Diego Comic-Con.
After everything, Seavers sets up a new venture called “The Fall Guys,” offering professional stunt services. In the last moments, he’s shown spinning his beloved GMC K-2500 truck along the beach with Jody beside him. The final scene ends theatrically as “The End” appears on the screen, written just like it would be in a movie script.
