The Veil Ending Explained: A Fight Of Betrayal, Loss, and Secrets

On the run with hope and heartbreak in every step.

After Imogen told Adilah that she believed she still had some goodness in her and urged her to run away again, their journey continued. She assured Adilah that she could find a way for both her and her daughter, Yasmina, to start over, without needing to go through with the planned attack.

Even with different intelligence services—like the DGSE in France and the CIA in America—on their trail, they managed to get a ride and reach London. There, Patrick, a driver working for Michael Althorp, came to pick them up.

Michael, who had mentored Imogen’s father and had a romantic history with Imogen, owned a large estate in the English countryside. She told Adilah she hoped Michael, a skilled undercover agent, could arrange travel documents and passports for them.

Trying to use her past relationship with Michael to get what she wanted, Imogen discovered disturbing truths instead. It became clear Michael had been aware of her father’s secret Russian allegiance and was himself part of the same underground operation.

He was also connected to the ISIS plot. Michael confirmed these accusations and even revealed that he was the father of Imogen’s dead child. His twisted belief system, which saw global chaos as a path to human evolution, shocked Imogen.

Meanwhile, Adilah clashed with Patrick, who expressed hateful views towards Muslims and blamed his time as a Royal Marine for his prejudice.

Adilah’s Life Ends Tragically in ‘The Veil’

Having doubts that Michael would ever help them, Imogen promised Adilah she’d find a way to get her and Yasmina to safety. But she asked Adilah to finally share the name of the vessel carrying ISIS’s nuclear weapon. Adilah, however, said she needed to see Yasmina in person first.

With Michael now her only option, Imogen climbed into bed with him and then pulled a knife on him, stabbing him in the groin and threatening to kill him if he didn’t talk. Michael, in response, pulled out a gun from under the sheets and pointed it at her, claiming she wouldn’t dare go further.

Just as he aimed at her, Malik Amar, Imogen’s handler and secret partner from the DGSE, arrived with CIA officer Max Peterson and shot Michael in the head. With Michael dead, Imogen and Adilah tried to escape once more, knowing that only Imogen now had the chance to identify the ship.

But before they could drive away, Patrick shot Adilah in the back. Knowing she was going to die, Imogen stepped out of the car and shot Patrick in cold blood, calling him a coward. Back in the car, she broke down next to Adilah’s lifeless body.

That was when she noticed Adilah had used the car window’s fog to write the ship’s name. Imogen thanked her with tears. The military intercepted the ship and eliminated Emir, Adilah’s ISIS partner, before he could set off the bomb.

At the mansion, Malik informed Imogen that Max, injured during their arrival, would survive. He also told her Adilah would be buried in Paris next to her grandfather. Imogen made it clear she didn’t want to hear anything about Michael. Malik reassured her that it was finished, calling her by her real name, Violet.

Imogen’s Father Reveals His True Colours in ‘The Veil’

While alone in the house, Imogen came across letters addressed to a cottage on the property. She decided to go there after seeing someone leave. Inside, she found disturbing proof that someone had been keeping an eye on her, along with files related to the global terror scheme.

She soon realised her father had survived the CIA’s attempt to kill him and had remained hidden while working with Russian intelligence, keeping her under surveillance the entire time.

Speaking aloud, she reflected on how he had watched her become many different people and questioned how any father could leave their child like that. She accused him of betraying not only his country but also her personally. She vowed never to forgive him.

Before stepping out, she quoted a line from The Tempest: “Hell is empty, and all the devils are here.”

Final Scenes Point to a Possible Future for Imogen

Imogen later went to the airport to see Yasmina and her aunt, Nour, off. She had already taken steps to make sure they could start afresh in Canada. As she watched the flight information board, her phone rang—possibly Malik was calling about a new assignment.

She replied that she’d be there within a few hours. Just like in the first episode, she asked what her new alias would be and smiled quietly to herself. Even though Adilah’s arc has ended, this final scene hints at the possibility of more seasons, similar to the approach taken in Mission: Impossible or James Bond films.

Elisabeth Moss has expressed interest in continuing the role, telling Collider that she felt like the character’s journey was just beginning and that giving Imogen more missions and identities would be too enjoyable an idea to ignore.

Still, there’s an argument for keeping it as a single self-contained story. Imogen and Adilah’s connection was central to this first season, and Michael’s death seemed to wrap up a major part of her past.

Though one path would be for Imogen to confront her father face-to-face, any portrayal of him as less than a complete villain could reduce the impact of her emotional outburst at the cottage. Yet, several elements of Imogen’s background still haven’t been fully developed.

Details about her daughter remain unclear, including how she died, and her grief, now worsened by Adilah’s death, could offer deeper emotional weight for future episodes. With Michael no longer in the picture, Imogen might even try to build something more stable with Malik.

Their uneasy partnership with Max brought moments of unexpected humour, and now that Max and Malik have softened toward each other, that dynamic might continue to add a lighter tone. Max even admitted that Malik was more attractive and a better match for Imogen than Michael ever was.
