Deadpool & Wolverine, the latest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), has crossed $1 billion at the box office, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time. The film reunites Ryan Reynolds’s Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine as they confront a multiversal threat. The antagonist, Paradox (Matthew Macfadyen), from the Time Variance Authority (TVA), threatens to destroy Wade Wilson’s universe, prompting the duo to join forces to save reality.
Set six years after Deadpool 2, Wade Wilson has retired from superhero life and now works as a car salesman. While celebrating his birthday with close friends, he is approached by TVA agents and introduced to Paradox. Paradox offers him a chance to join the sacred timeline, but Wade learns that his universe is in danger because Wolverine has died. This leads Wade to search the multiverse for another variant of Logan.
Wade and Wolverine Face the Void While Battling Cassandra Nova and Multiverse Threats
Wade eventually recruits a troubled Wolverine variant, and both are exiled by Paradox to the Void, a chaotic wasteland inspired by Mad Max. There, they encounter Cassandra Nova, Professor X’s evil twin sister. Wade and Wolverine join a band of resistance members, including Blade, Elektra, Gambit, and X-23, to fight Cassandra and find a way back to Wade’s timeline using an inter-dimensional portal.

Back in Wade’s timeline, Paradox uses a device called the Time Ripper to erase timelines he does not need. Cassandra Nova returns with an army of Deadpool variants to seize the device and destroy the multiverse. Wade and Wolverine attempt to stop her with help from Peter, and they learn that shutting down the Time Ripper requires creating an energy bridge using their own bodies, a process that carries a high risk of death.
Deadpool and Wolverine Survive Together While Setting Up Future MCU Appearances
Deadpool begins the sacrificial act, but Wolverine joins him and shares the energy burden. Together, they survive the explosion that destroys the Time Ripper and defeats Cassandra Nova. Other characters such as Sabretooth, some TVA agents, and Human Torch also die. Wade and Logan survive because they divided the energy of the explosion between them.
By the end of the film, some multiversal variants, including Elektra, Gambit, and Blade, are unlikely to appear again. X-23 remains and may have a future role in the MCU. The Logan variant integrates into Wade’s life, suggesting he could return in future stories. Deadpool is now officially part of the MCU, and the film hints that he may have a significant role in upcoming events.
