One of the key plotlines involves the murder of Tony Curran, co-owner of Coopers Chase. He is killed by Bogdan, one of his exploited Polish workers. Elizabeth uncovers that Tony, along with Bobby, withheld Bogdan’s passport and forced him into criminal activities. Bogdan’s confession is revealed through recordings of chess games he plays with Elizabeth’s husband, Stephen, who suffers from dementia, allowing the police to arrest him.

The Thursday Murder Club Unravels the Lady in White Cold Case Mystery

The Thursday Murder Club also solves a decades-old cold case known as the Lady in White. Elizabeth pieces together that Peter Mercer murdered his girlfriend, Angela Hughes, in 1973. Inspector Penny, aware of Peter’s crime, killed him and hid his body with the help of her husband, John. Forensic testing confirms that the skeleton Bogdan accidentally unearths belongs to Peter, enabling Elizabeth to solve the cold case through careful deduction and historical knowledge.

In the film’s finale, John admits to murdering Ian Ventum to protect Penny and prevent exposure of Peter Mercer’s death. Although the movie does not show John being imprisoned, the Thursday Murder Club attends his and Penny’s funeral, paying tribute to the deceased. The film concludes with Elizabeth and Stephen celebrating their anniversary, Ron enjoying football with his son, and Joyce and Ibrahim reminiscing about their past, highlighting the enduring bonds of friendship among the club members.
