Warner Bros. lined up four DC movies for theatrical release in 2023. However, it hasn’t been a smooth run so far, with Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash both underperforming at the box office.
With Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom still months away, Blue Beetle stands as the best hope for DC to turn things around. Whether general audiences will embrace the film remains uncertain.

The movie features Cobra Kai star Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes, who gains extraordinary abilities after an alien Scarab named Khaji-Da (voiced by Becky G) fuses with him. Jaime comes into possession of the Scarab through Jenny Kord (Bruna Marquezine), daughter of the former Blue Beetle, Ted Kord.
Jenny entrusts it to Jaime in an effort to keep it away from her ruthless aunt, Victoria Kord (Susan Sarandon), and her enforcer, Ignacio Carapax (Raoul Max Trujillo).
The cast also includes George Lopez as Rudy Reyes, Jaime’s conspiracy-theorist uncle, along with Damián Alcázar as Alberto Reyes, Elpidia Carrillo as Rocio Reyes, Belissa Escobedo as Milagro Reyes, Adriana Barraza as Nana, and Harvey Guillén as Dr. Sanchez. Directed by Ángel Manuel Soto, the film is based on a screenplay by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer.
Now, let’s go over the conclusion of Blue Beetle and what it could mean moving forward.
How Does Blue Beetle End?
Jaime and Khaji-Da choose to spare Carapax during the climactic showdown, restoring his long-suppressed memories of his childhood. This revelation exposes Victoria Kord as the one responsible for the death of Carapax’s mother and for forcing him into a life as a child soldier.
No longer willing to continue the fight, Carapax initiates a self-destruct sequence, sacrificing himself in an explosion that also takes Victoria’s life.
Following these events, Jenny assumes control of Kord Industries, pledging to dismantle Victoria’s weapons program and invest in the community.
Meanwhile, Jaime and his family finally take time to grieve for his father, Alberto, who suffered a fatal heart attack when Victoria’s forces stormed their home earlier in the film in an attempt to retrieve the Scarab.
The mood moves when their friends and neighbors arrive, bringing support and celebrating Alberto’s life while helping the Reyes family move forward. Jenny attends the gathering as well, assuring the Reyes family that she will ensure their home remains theirs.
Sparks also fly between her and Jaime, hinting at the beginning of a romance that connects the legacy of the second Blue Beetle, Ted Kord, with his successor. The film ends with Jaime and Jenny flying off together.
What’s Next for Blue Beetle?
If a follow-up film is greenlit—which is far from guaranteed at this stage—the mid-credits scene lays the groundwork for future developments.
It confirms that Jenny’s father, Ted Kord, is alive, despite being missing for years. His reactivated computers transmit a message in which he urges the recipient to inform Jenny that he’s still out there.
However, Ted does not disclose his location or explain why he hasn’t returned. The situation bears similarities to Ant-Man and the Wasp, where Janet van Dyne remained trapped in the Quantum Realm for decades.
Although this moment teases further adventures, there’s a strong possibility that this plot thread will never be resolved if Blue Beetle does not continue beyond this film. Blue Beetle is currently playing in theaters.
