For those who haven’t yet wrapped themselves in one of the best electric blankets to watch ITVX’s Platform 7, this psychological thriller is one you shouldn’t miss. Adapted from Louise Doughty’s novel of the same name, the four-part series has undoubtedly left viewers with plenty of questions.
While many have been curious about where Platform 7 was filmed, even more intrigue surrounds how Lisa’s story was wrapped up. The show’s ending remained faithful to the book in many respects, but a few alterations changed the way Lisa’s journey was brought to a close.

Throughout their relationship, Matty’s manipulative and controlling behavior remained hidden from those around Lisa, including her parents. On the night she died, what started as a heated argument escalated into a physical altercation, forcing Lisa to flee in fear for her life.
Matty chased her to the train station, right up to Platform 7. Even though he never pushed her, she was desperately trying to escape him when she fell onto the tracks and was struck by a train. Instead of coming forward, Matty ran away, continuing his pattern of toxic control in new relationships.
He also spread falsehoods about Lisa’s mental state in the months leading up to her death, further distorting the truth. By the time Platform 7 reached its closing moments, Lisa, still lingering as a ghost, had regained all her lost memories.
With her awareness fully restored, she began tormenting Matty, now able to manipulate objects in the real world—including his laptop. He attempted to explain away the strange disturbances, such as Lisa repeatedly playing a clip of him singing on television, but the events left him increasingly unsettled.
How Lisa Took Revenge on Matty
Determined to ensure Matty could no longer harm anyone the way he had hurt her, Lisa took action to expose him. She sent a mass email to all the women at the hospital where he worked, including a photo of him with the message: “If you like what you see, text me.”
The move led to immediate consequences, as Matty was confronted by the hospital’s HR department and subsequently sent home. Shortly after, Sasha, his current girlfriend, arrived at his house and ended their relationship.
Matty’s reaction turned aggressive, revealing the controlling tendencies he had managed to keep hidden. Sasha, now seeing his true nature for the first time, stood her ground. At that moment, Lisa’s spirit intervened, jumping onto Matty’s back to physically stop him from blocking Sasha’s exit.

Though Matty remained unaware of Lisa’s ghostly presence, she made it clear that she wanted something impossible—to see him change. As events began mirroring the night of Lisa’s death, Matty, overwhelmed by fear, ran through the streets, just as she had done a year before.
This time, Lisa followed him. Meanwhile, transport police officer Akash, who had been working to reopen Lisa’s case, was alerted by the neighbor and quickly set off in pursuit. Matty climbed over the railings and leaped onto the train tracks.
What Became of Matty and Lisa’s Parents?
Matty’s fate took a different turn when he was rescued before any harm could come to him. In the final moments of Platform 7, he was seen receiving medication while repeatedly muttering to himself.
He struggled to explain what had happened, questioning whether he had truly seen Lisa or if his mind had played tricks on him. It was left open-ended whether he had genuinely caught a glimpse of her spirit or if his guilt had pushed him into delusions.
For Lisa’s parents, some level of closure finally arrived. Learning about Matty’s involvement in their daughter’s death and the way he had concealed the truth allowed them to take steps toward moving forward.
A ‘sold’ sign was placed outside their home as they packed up Lisa’s belongings, preparing to leave the place where so many painful memories remained. Lisa herself appeared to have found peace as well. Having taken justice into her own hands, she was shown boarding a train at Platform 7 and settling into her seat.
It was a symbolic moment, suggesting that her journey was continuing into whatever lay beyond. This was where Platform 7 left Lisa’s story, and while many aspects remained true to the original book, several key differences set the show’s conclusion apart from its source material.
