The movie opens with a high school sports event where Hwang Woo-yeon dashes across the field to score the winning touchdown. As this plays out, the narrator reflects on how love has the power to heal wounds, even when the odds seem impossible to overcome.
After scoring, Woo-yeon eagerly runs to kiss his cheerleader girlfriend, but it turns out to be a fabricated story he tells to inspire his students since he works as a physical education teacher in high school. Once the class ends, he heads to his desk and finds a wedding invitation.

This triggers memories of how he first became familiar with the surname Hwan when he encountered a person he refers to as Seung-hee.
How do Hwang Woo-yeon and Hwan Seung-hee meet?
Back in 2005, while still in high school, Woo-yeon finds himself being reprimanded by a teacher in the staff office for engaging in a school fight. It is during this moment that he first lays eyes on Hwan Seung-hee. She is a newly transferred senior student who immediately catches his interest.
Word about Seung-hee quickly spreads throughout the school, eventually drawing the attention of Taek-ki, the school bully. Declaring her as his, Taek-ki warns everyone to stay away from her. However, this does little to discourage Woo-yeon, who continues to admire and pursue her in his way.
One day, Taek-ki initiates a fight with Woo-yeon, but Woo-yeon chooses not to retaliate, as he had promised someone he wouldn’t. As a token of appreciation, Seung-hee takes him out for a meal after school.
On their way home, she suddenly becomes uneasy upon noticing a truck passing through the neighborhood and abruptly turns away to avoid it. For the next few days, she remains in a gloomy state, and to lift her spirits, Woo-yeon sneaks into the school’s media room.
With assistance from the school band, he plays her favorite song, hoping to bring a smile to her face. Hearing the tune, Seung-hee feels better and joins in singing along. Later, the two visit the beach, where Woo-yeon gifts her an MP3 player to help her through difficult moments. In return, Seung-hee gives him their first kiss.
Why were Woo-yeon and Seung-hee separated in high school?
Woo-yeon is ecstatic about experiencing his first kiss, but his happiness is short-lived when Seung-hee suddenly stops attending school and ignores his calls. Concerned, he sets out to look for her in her neighborhood and stumbles upon an alarming scene.
A crowd has gathered outside a salon where Seung-hee, with tear-streaked cheeks, is seen cleaning up shattered glass. Inside the shop, a drunk man is present, and the moment Seung-hee sees Woo-yeon, she yells at him to leave. Without hesitation, he walks away.
Days later, Seung-hee contacts Woo-yeon to bid farewell. She reveals that the man at the salon is her father—a violent and abusive individual. She and her mother have spent years running from him, but now that he has found them again, they have no choice but to move away once more.
Seung-hee leaves town, and they lose contact.
Do Woo-yeon and Seung-hee reunite?
After completing high school, Woo-yeon secures a job frying chicken and has no intention of furthering his education. Meanwhile, his friend actively searches for universities in Seoul, one of which is Hankook University.
Casually glancing at the university pamphlet his friend is holding, Woo-yeon is stunned to spot Seung-hee in one of the images. In that instant, he finds new motivation—attending Hankook University to reunite with her. Despite his parents mocking his ambition, Woo-yeon works tirelessly to gain admission to the university.
Upon arrival, his priority is to locate Seung-hee. However, unlike the reunion he envisions, where she would run into his arms, she is merely surprised to see him. The two reconnect as Woo-yeon assists her in posting flyers advertising her tutoring services for fashion design around the neighborhood.
To stay close to her, he decides to live in the same boarding house as Seung-hee. What he does not anticipate is that Seung-hee already has a boyfriend. Yoo-geum, the quarterback and captain of the football team, is the man in Seung-hee’s life.
Although Woo-yeon acts supportive and pretends to be happy for her, deep down, he takes a different approach—joining the football team to get closer to Yoo-geum. During practice, he witnesses an affectionate moment between Seung-hee and her boyfriend, which frustrates him, leading him to walk off the field.
At another point, Woo-yeon and Seung-hee help an elderly couple load boxes into their car. Later that night, Woo-yeon and his friends use Seung-hee’s internet connection to download illegal adult content. While they are still engrossed, the police arrive and arrest them.
Initially, Woo-yeon assumes it is due to the downloads, but they later discover that the elderly couple they assisted were thieves, implicating them as accomplices. Fortunately, the situation is resolved, and they are released.
During their time in lock-up, Seung-hee confesses to Woo-yeon that it only took her three seconds to fall for Yoo-geum. This revelation leaves Woo-yeon disheartened. Over time, his frustration grows, leading him to damage Yoo-geum’s windshield in a fit of jealousy.
His downward spiral continues, and he reaches a low point at the university, practically living like a vagrant. Seung-hee eventually intervenes, helping him recover. However, just when Woo-yeon begins to accept her relationship, he overhears Yoo-geum flirting with another woman and inviting her on a European trip.
Despite knowing this, Woo-yeon remains silent until he learns that Yoo-geum had promised Seung-hee they would travel to Europe together if he won an upcoming game. Determined to protect her, Woo-yeon drags Seung-hee away from the field to disclose what he knows, but she refuses to believe him.
Once back on the field, Woo-yeon initially intends to make his team lose the match, but seeing the disappointment on Seung-hee’s face, he changes his mind and helps them win. Afterward, he confronts Yoo-geum, physically attacking him.
In the resulting scenes, Woo-yeon distances himself from Seung-hee, and she eventually embarks on a European trip, causing them to lose touch again.
What happens to Hwan Woo-yeon and Hwan Seung-hee after college?
Years later, in 2012, Woo-yeon maintained friendships with his former boarding housemates—Geun-nam, Kong-ja, and Soo-pyo. They are in their final year of university, having previously taken a break from military service, though Soo-pyo is still serving.

Woo-yeon is now dating Min-kyung and works part-time as a gym trainer. Meanwhile, after her European trip, Seung-hee realizes that Woo-yeon was right about Yoo-geum. They end their relationship, and she returns to Korea, where she secures a job as a commercial model.
Do Hwan Woo-yeon and Hwan Seung-hee reunite in adulthood?
One day, while distributing flyers for his gym, Woo-yeon unexpectedly spots Seung-hee. He follows her into a studio where she is working as a fashion model, and she is delighted to see him. They later have a meal together, catching up on their lives, and she learns about his relationship with Min-kyung.
By chance, Seung-hee’s driver quits, leaving her without transportation for promotional shoots. Woo-yeon steps in to fill the role, and as they spend more time together, his old feelings resurface. However, this time, Woo-yeon faces an obstacle—his commitment to Min-kyung.
Over time, the strain of his growing closeness to Seung-hee causes his relationship with Min-kyung to crumble, and they eventually break up.
