The Next 365 Days Ending Explained: What That Vague Final Scene Suggests

The final chapter of Netflix's steamy trilogy, The Next 365 Days, delivers the intense drama viewers have come to expect.

Laura and Massimo’s relationship has never been free of tension, but the conclusion of this third film introduces one unresolved issue that has left audiences speculating. With no official confirmation yet on whether Netflix plans to continue the story, fans are left in suspense.

Coming after the startling events of 365 Days: This Day, the last instalment focuses on the efforts of Laura and Massimo to repair a relationship already marked by serious trials—including Laura surviving a gunshot wound.

At first, many assumed the story would wrap up with Laura and Massimo reuniting, especially given the film’s reputation as one of Netflix’s most sexually charged offerings. However, The Next 365 Days veers in a different direction, offering a closing act that caught many off guard and prompted immediate calls for a fourth movie, even though it hasn’t been officially greenlit.

While waiting for updates on whether another instalment will happen, fans continue discussing the film’s unresolved final moments.

Although Laura managed to live through the shocking end of the previous movie, her dynamic with Massimo has clearly changed. She tries to move forward, even telling Nacho to let her go, though Massimo appears unable to do the same.

Despite maintaining physical intimacy, their emotional distance grows when Laura hides the truth about her miscarriage—something Massimo only finds out later. Both characters throw themselves into their work: Massimo remains immersed in his criminal activities, and Laura pours her energy into running her fashion label.

While in Portugal for the Lagos fashion fair with her friend Olga, Laura comes across Amelia, who happens to be Nacho’s sister. Amelia encourages Laura to hear Nacho out, insisting he’s a decent man who’s simply devoted to his father.

Laura and Nacho eventually reunite, and after he professes his love, they end up in an intimate moment on the beach. Nacho differs from Massimo in that he respects Laura’s autonomy. He even explains that he saved Massimo’s life by killing Anna because he recognised Laura’s love for him.

Nacho later tells Laura he doesn’t want her to be with him out of guilt or obligation. He expresses that he’s willing to wait until she’s ready to choose freely, even if it means she picks someone else.

Back at her hotel, Laura finds Massimo waiting. Surprisingly, he tells her he’s returning to Sicily, giving her space rather than pressure. She then visits her parents, where she admits to being in love with Nacho but says she remains unsure of what direction to take.

Her mother offers a firm piece of advice: in any relationship, self-happiness must come first. She reminds Laura that putting her needs at the forefront ensures her ability to sustain love.

Laura has a fantasy where she imagines being with both men—Massimo and Nacho—at once, and even imagines them kissing. Returning to Sicily, she’s cautioned by Olga that Massimo has learned of her time with Nacho. Olga encourages her to flee, but Laura decides she won’t let fear of Massimo dictate her actions.

At this point, the story moves towards its most emotionally charged confrontation.

Laura is greeted by a surprise upon arrival in Sicily—Nacho is posing as her driver, using a hat as a weak disguise. He opens up about his feelings and shares hopes for a life they could build together. But Laura, still unsure, tells him she needs more time. He agrees to wait, and they part at her doorstep.

She finds Massimo waiting on the beach. Rather than acting angrily, he responds with calm reflection. Massimo reveals he had known about Nacho the entire time and confesses how deeply hurt he was by Laura’s decision to go through the miscarriage alone.

He shares a memory from childhood—a lesson from his father about love: “If you really love something, let it go. If it returns, it’s yours forever. If it doesn’t, it never truly belonged to you.”

Laura comments on the wisdom of Massimo’s father and encourages him that he too will one day be a good father. As they share a long look, Massimo asks, “Are you back, baby girl?”

That’s where the story stops.

The movie leaves Laura’s decision unspoken. Whether she returns to Massimo, chooses Nacho, or opts to remain on her own, is left for each viewer to interpret. Netflix has yet to share any word on whether a fourth film will be made.

Many fans pointed to a recent Instagram post by Michele Morrone as a possible sign the story might continue. However, it appears to be a cryptic reflection rather than confirmation of future plans.

He wrote, “The end of something is always a little bit sad.. but.. who knows…”

How the 365 Days Book Series Wraps Up

The movie’s ending deviates sharply from how the books wrap things up.

In the third book, events spiral into chaos. The plot involves a dead pet, a second kidnapping, and even a heart transplant. The only noticeable similarity with the film is Laura’s motorbike.

In the book’s final act, Laura ends up choosing Nacho—though the choice comes after she’s held against her will, drugged, and subjected to an attempt by Massimo to impregnate her. In such a grim setting, Laura’s escape with Nacho feels almost inevitable. The epilogue shows they have a daughter together, while Massimo, having given up, agrees to a divorce.

Given the alternative presented in the book, many viewers will likely prefer the ambiguous tone of the movie’s ending. Whether that signals another sequel, no one knows yet. The Next 365 Days is currently streaming on Netflix.
