Season 3 of From saw a continuous downward spiral for the characters. While Seasons 1 and 2 had presented a sense of uneasy peace in the town of Fromville, where everyone more or less followed the established rules of the nightmare world they were trapped in, things began to unravel in this season.
Residents weren’t happy to be there, but at least there was a semblance of order. That began to change as certain individuals started challenging the established way of life, clearly trying to escape the nightmare. Whoever was in charge of the strange happenings wasn’t pleased with this disobedience.

The weather turned colder, something many of the residents had never experienced before, and food began to run low. The monsters that had once only appeared after dark were now more aggressive. They no longer waited for the townspeople to be foolish enough to wander out after nightfall.
One of the first signs of this change occurred when the monsters released farm animals that had been stockpiled in barns, forcing the townspeople to venture outside to gather the animals, putting themselves at risk.
As tensions escalated, several people lost their lives, including Mrs. Chen, who was tortured to death right in front of Boyd. During this horrifying scene, one of the monsters made it clear they were taking up Boyd’s challenge from the previous season, where he declared that he could not be broken.
The theme of the season seemed to center on making Fromville as terrifying as possible while trying to break Boyd’s spirit.
Tabitha’s Escape and the Return of the Monsters
While all of this was happening, Tabitha managed to escape Fromville using a magical tree but soon returned, bringing a police officer, an ambulance crew, and Victor’s father with her. Upon their arrival, the ambulance crew was killed, leaving only Victor’s father, the officer, and Tabitha alive.
From shares the same creators as Lost, and it’s clear from the constant stream of unanswered questions, such as the mystery surrounding Fatima’s “baby,” the meaning of the word “anghkooey” spoken by the strange children, and the identity of the mummified woman Elgin was conversing with.
The Violent End and Mysterious Future of Fromville
The season finale of From was a turning point, with several long-awaited answers, but still more questions emerged. It was revealed that Fatima wasn’t pregnant with a baby, but instead was carrying the same smiling monster from Season 2.
The townspeople were told that the monsters were once human beings who had sacrificed their children to gain immortality. These sacrificed children, in turn, were the ones who had been saying “anghkooey.” A key moment came when Jade played a violin tune that restored his and Tabitha’s memories.

They learned that when the nightmare began, they were the only parents who had refused to sacrifice their children, and as a result, they were doomed to keep returning to Fromville, only to forget everything each time. Tabitha explained that “anghkooey” meant “remember,” but the language it came from wasn’t disclosed.
The episode revealed that Tabitha and Jade had been trapped in Fromville since the very first day, and they weren’t the only ones facing this fate. As Tabitha and Jim processed this grim news separately, a man in a worn yellow sports coat emerged from the forest in the daylight.
Just before he could interact with Jim, Julie appeared, having just realized that she could “walk between the stories”—a form of time travel. Unfortunately, while she could observe different moments in time, she couldn’t alter events.
This limitation was starkly demonstrated when Julie attempted to warn her father to flee, but Jim, determined to protect her, stayed and confronted the man in yellow.
This man, much like the smiling monsters, easily withstood their attack, grabbed Jim by the throat, and, in front of Julie, ripped his throat out, explaining that Jim had made a fatal mistake by allowing Tabitha to dig the hole back in Season 1.
With numerous unresolved mysteries still in place from Season 4, it’s evident that the rules of the town and the characters’ roles have undergone drastic changes. You can now watch this gripping film from start to finish on Amazon Prime Video.
