The movie begins with Lucy restrained on a board with her images and articles scattered around her. She somehow manages to free herself and tries to escape, but a masked man with a knife chases her. Lucy is soon pulled into a space with a woodchopper.
Meanwhile, Kellie returns home from a date and recounts to Sasha how every man she meets reminds her of her late husband, Tom. Suddenly, her brother Jack surprises her by appearing at her house unannounced. Kellie is managing a company on her own, but she’s struggling without Tom and is considering selling the business.

Kellie is also part of a bereavement support group, which is where she met Sasha. She tells Sasha that she isn’t fond of attending the group sessions, especially since it marks the first anniversary of Tom’s death. Sasha encourages her to message a man named Dan, whom she thinks would be perfect for Kellie.
Kellie follows her advice, and they arrange a double date. Sasha brings along Kellie’s brother, Jack. Jack, being a protective sibling, asks Dan many questions, all of which Dan answers appropriately. However, while this is happening, Dan secretly gives a photo of Jack to someone, requesting them to scare him.
Unknown to Kellie, someone is tailing Dan and snapping pictures of his movements. Later, Kellie receives a call from Jack, who’s been beaten up. Assuming the worst of Jack because of his past with alcohol and gambling, Kellie gives the man some money to free Jack.
Afterward, Kellie and Dan enjoy a walk where Dan shares that he’s had a good time and hasn’t felt like this in a long while. Dan later mentions that his house had caught fire, which prevents him from inviting Jack over for bonding.
Kellie asks him about his late wife, and he explains that she passed away three years ago, but he’s now happy with Kellie. Dan expresses his affection for her, and they kiss. Jack starts digging into Dan’s past, but he doesn’t find anything suspicious.
However, Dan surprises Kellie by sending her a bouquet to work, and she’s happy to see it. They sleep together that night, but Jack, unable to reach Kellie, watches them from outside. The following day, Jack breaks into Dan’s car and finds a photo of Dan with another woman.
He also scratches Dan’s car, all while someone takes pictures of the incident. Kellie meets with Sasha to discuss how happy she feels with Dan. Sasha supports her, encouraging her to continue seeing him. Jack interrupts the conversation, asking about an article on the front page about the potential sale of Kellie’s company.
He is visibly angry that she is keeping so many secrets. Before leaving, Jack gives her some money, claiming it’s for her best interests. Later, Kellie and Dan enjoy a dinner date and then decide to stay in. They end up sleeping together again. Kellie expresses her concern for her brother, who has been sober for two years.
Dan points out that Jack had taken a sip of wine during their double date. The next day, Dan asks if he can move in with Kellie, citing that it will help keep Jack at bay. He claims it will be temporary until his house is repaired, but Kellie asks for time to think it over.
That evening, Kellie receives a message from Dan stating that he will be late for work, and she calls a cab. She’s shocked when a woman warns her that both her and Jack’s lives are in danger. Kellie is terrified and runs away.
She assumes that Jack must be behind the woman’s warning, believing it’s related to his gambling debts, which surprises Jack. Kellie’s assistant informs her of a call asking about a person named Robert and if she had been to Loville. That night, a woman named Mona warns Kellie about something, but Kellie is spooked and ends up falling down the stairs. She is hospitalized with a concussion, and Dan offers to buy her something to make up for it.
However, he takes her credit card, claiming that his belongings have been stolen. Kellie asks about Mona, and Dan explains that Mona is his ex-girlfriend, who is toxic and obsessed with him. Mona meets with two other women, claiming they need to take stronger action.
Dan makes Kellie some homemade soup, then leaves for work. He tells her to press the panic button if she feels unsafe and adds that Jack will keep an eye on her. Kellie notices she has developed an unusual cough. Before leaving, Dan asks her to review some papers.
Kellie spots a bill for an engagement ring and calls Sasha. However, when Sasha calls her back, it turns out to be Mona, who warns her that if she doesn’t listen, she will die. Kellie dismisses the warning but receives a message urging her to ask Dan about Lucy Wilson.
Mona shows up at Kellie’s house, and Kellie calls the police. Jack rushes over to help and reveals that Dan had never contacted him about staying with Kellie. They argue, and Kellie tells Jack to leave. Sasha arrives and pushes Kellie to keep seeing Dan.
The following day, Dan brings Kellie a new phone and throws away her old one without asking for her input. This leaves Kellie confused and upset. Kellie investigates Lucy Wilson and discovers a picture of Mona, Dan, and Lucy. Under the photo, Dan is identified as Robert. She seeks Jack’s help, and together they visit the place where Lucy worked, only to hear a different story about Mona being the villain. Jack defends Mona, and Kellie sides with Dan.
Kellie comes home to find Dan furious with her for visiting the Red Stop (where Lucy worked). He reveals he has put a tracker on her phone to protect her, but Kellie is angered by his actions and faints. Jack continues looking into Dan’s past and grows increasingly suspicious of him.
As he investigates, someone drags him away. Kellie wakes up and sees Sasha giving her soup. She asks to speak with Sasha privately and tells her to send Dan on an errand. She plans to meet with Jack.
Sasha and Kellie find a room filled with alcohol bottles and drugs, leading them to discover that Jack is dead, likely from a drug overdose. The police question Sasha, but she refuses to cooperate. Kellie intervenes and informs the officer about Mona and the restraining order, asserting that Jack never used drugs.
Sasha drags Kellie inside, and she begs Sasha to reveal the truth about Mona. Alone in the house, Kellie is kidnapped by two women. They chain her up and give her activated charcoal to neutralize the poison Dan has been putting in her soup. The women explain that they lost their families because of Dan.
They devise a plan, and Kellie contacts Sasha to warn her about Dan. Sasha is also taken and locked in a room with Kellie.

She asks for Sasha and Mona’s release, but Dan refuses. Kellie manages to untie herself and pushes Dan away. He retaliates by holding a knife to Sasha’s neck, but Kellie pleads for Sasha’s release.
Sasha refuses to leave without Kellie signing the papers, and as soon as Kellie complies, Sasha reveals the truth: Dan is her husband, and his real name is Chris. Sasha’s true identity is Emily Blake. In a fit of rage, Kellie attacks Chris with the pocket knife and flees.
Chris chases her, eventually cornering her near the chipper. Mona and the other women emerge and push Chris into the machine. Sasha/Emily is devastated, and the others close in on her. Just as Kellie prepares to strike Sasha/Emily, the police arrive and uncover evidence against them.
The officer enters a van, discovering a social worker’s dead body and realizing that Sasha/Emily is missing. She is wearing the social worker’s clothes and manages to escape. The movie demonstrates the danger of blindly trusting someone, particularly when love blinds one’s judgment.
This is what leads Kellie down a treacherous path, and Sasha’s encouragement erases her doubts. Sasha’s disappearance indicates that she will continue exploiting people, and she shows no remorse for her husband’s death.
Chris got what he deserved for everything he did, and Sasha’s actions throughout the story made it clear she was always a source of suspicion.
