Even though many of us wished for a different outcome, Gerry died. Richard Dormer, well known from Game of Thrones, gave a remarkable performance as Constable Gerry Cliff. He was like a father figure to Tommy, a gentle presence for troubled people like Happy.
He wasn’t shy about expressing affection to his wife, desk sergeant Sandra, played by Andi Osho from Line of Duty. His passing came after he sustained multiple gunshot wounds at the end of the fifth episode. He died despite the determined efforts of Constable Jen Robinson (played by Hannah McClean).

Who managed to rise above her fear of frontline policing to try to save him, Gerry’s injuries were too severe. His death came as a real blow, and considering he appeared in only five episodes, the way people reacted to his absence says a lot about how much impact he had.
The moment Sandra said her final goodbye beside his hospital bed remains deeply emotional and unforgettable. Farewell to Gerry. At least, before his death, Jen succeeded in taking down the person who shot him – drug dealer Eoin, played by Art Campion from Derry Girls – shooting him instantly.
Gerry’s death also served as the breaking point that triggered the collapse of the McIntyre crime organisation, removing a notorious gang from the streets.
James McIntyre’s Secret Ties With MI5
Things were far more tangled than they first seemed, especially after it was revealed in episode four that James McIntyre, portrayed by John Lynch from The Terror, had secretly been acting as an informant for MI5 since 1998. His reason? To protect his family.
Only his wife Tina, played by Abigail McGibbon, was aware of this agreement. Joseph, the MI5 handler played by Nabil Elouahabi from Trigger Point, pushed James to complete one last mission to earn his family’s freedom.
He had to allow a gun deal arranged by his son, Mo – played by Michael Shea – to proceed, which would give MI5 a chance to track the weapons and catch the Ginley gang in the act, removing yet another dangerous group from circulation.
Things went off course when Gerry disrupted the deal and lost his life in the process. Mo then discovered that his father had been working for MI5 all this while, explaining how they’d managed to stay untouched by law enforcement in Belfast. MI5 offered protection and a new identity to James and just one other person.
This put James in a difficult position – he had to choose between saving his wife and his son. He decided to take Mo and head for the planned meeting location. Unfortunately, events did not go as expected for either of them.
Why Didn’t Those Sneaky-Beakies Keep Their Word?
Grace, played by Siân Brooke from Good Omens, managed to change the course of things. She took video evidence from the MI5 team’s camera, showing they witnessed Gerry’s death and left without intervening.
This serious breach of duty was enough to pressure Joseph into giving up the location where the McIntyres were supposed to meet MI5. Because of this, Tommy (Nathan Braniff) and his team were able to reach the location in time and arrest the McIntyres before they could flee.
The arrest led to a powerful moment where the entire police unit stood in support, and Sandra processed her husband’s killers right into a holding cell.
What Happened To Gordy And His Mum?
Gordy, played by Dane Whyte O’Hara, had been heavily involved with the McIntyres, which had been a source of distress for his mother. When the illegal arms deal failed, Gordy was left vulnerable and isolated from the gang’s protection.
Thankfully, Grace persuaded him to testify against them. In return, she ensured that he and his mum received the two witness protection placements that were originally meant for the McIntyres.
What About Scaredycop Jen Robinson?
Jen found herself making quite a number of regrettable decisions throughout the series. Her fear of fieldwork made her put up a proud and aloof appearance. People around her thought she was acting like that because her mother was the Chief Superintendent.

She was also secretly in a relationship with the station boss, Jonty, played by Jonathan Harden. Eventually, Jen made the brave decision to end the affair and admit that she wasn’t cut out for policing. She submitted her resignation. Her mother later gave Jonty the directive to resign, too.
Did Tommy Ever Learn To Shoot Straight?
Eventually, yes. Thanks to the training and guidance from Gerry, Tommy improved his shooting skills. He then requested to be removed from the accelerated career programme, preferring instead to rise through the force alongside his fellow recruits.
The closing moments showed him and Annie, played by Katherine Devlin, patrolling together as partners.
Did Stevie and Grace Get Together?
Sadly, the relationship between Stevie and Grace didn’t turn romantic. Stevie, played by Martin McCann, served as Grace’s mentor during their duties, and over time, they became closer. By episode four, it was clear Stevie had feelings for her, but he didn’t take the next step.
He did manage to get her to try some of his homemade vol-au-vents – and no, that wasn’t code for anything – which was a small gesture that hinted their connection was growing deeper. There’s still hope for more development between them, because:
