The journey of Monkey Man starts with a clear objective: Kid, played by Dev Patel, aims to track down and eliminate Rana, a corrupt police chief who destroyed Kid’s family. Rana’s cruelty includes driving Kid’s family out of their home and murdering his mother.
To execute his plan, Kid first sneaks into a nightclub where Rana and his allies frequent, initially working in the kitchen, and later maneuvering through the ranks to access the VIP section where Rana usually hangs out.

Kid’s Transformation and the Fight for Justice
The movie’s plot mainly revolves around Kid’s determined pursuit of this mission. He cleverly figures out a way to smuggle a weapon into the club and goes on the attack against Rana. However, things don’t go according to plan.
Kid isn’t prepared for the brutal retaliation from Rana, and what should have been a straightforward assassination quickly escalates into serious injuries, a manhunt, and a near-death experience for Kid.
When Kid regains consciousness, he finds himself in an underground Hindu temple, a sanctuary for societal outcasts who live, worship, and support one another. Over time, with the help of enlightening substances, Kid begins to realize that his mission goes beyond just seeking revenge on Rana.
His mother’s tragic death is part of a larger, more deeply rooted system of corruption that affects the entire region. The rich and powerful perpetuate this system by continuously oppressing the poor, rebellious, and anyone who dares to be different.
Kid learns that the true leader behind this corrupt machine is Baba Shakti, a spiritual figure who, despite claiming to be for the people, is just as corrupt as Rana and his allies. Baba Shakti is involved in manipulating political elections and lives luxuriously while pretending to be detached from the political world.
While staying at the temple, Kid receives both physical and mental training. His time there helps him rediscover what he lost long ago: a sense of community. Kid’s tragic past robbed him not only of his mother but of a whole way of life that he has never truly found again.
This sense of belonging and support at the temple becomes a vital part of his transformation. He begins to embrace this new community, offering help with their financial struggles and training his body and mind in new ways that improve his fighting skills.
The Final Confrontation and Its Consequences
The climax of the film arrives when Kid, now stronger and more determined, launches a fresh attack on the club. With support from temple warriors, he fights his way through the kitchen and the bar, heading straight to the VIP sections where Rana is.

After a brutal battle, Kid finally kills Rana, but his mission doesn’t end there. Instead, he sets his sights on Baba Shakti, the true mastermind behind it all. In the penthouse, Kid faces off with Baba Shakti, who initially tries to use his usual manipulative tactics to sway him.
However, when Kid refuses to back down, Baba Shakti reveals a hidden blade and stabs Kid between the ribs. Mortally wounded, Kid remains defiant, pulling the blade out and fatally stabbing Baba Shakti, bringing an end to the man who symbolized the system of corruption.
As the authorities close in on the scene, Kid realizes he has avenged his mother, achieved justice, and brought some measure of peace. With that realization, he falls to the ground. What happens next is left unclear. The film implies that Kid dies after completing his mission, meeting his mother in the afterlife.
However, his death does not mean the fight against corruption is over. Baba Shakti’s supporters will continue their oppressive ways, and those who are left behind, including Kid’s friends, must now find their strength to resist the system.
With kids’ example of defiance and courage, they might stand a chance to push back and strive for a fairer world.
