Por Ending Explained: Are Prabhu And Yuva Able To Make Peace?

A grudge from school days explodes years later in the halls of Saint Martin’s.

The film Por, although it sets off with promising energy, eventually struggles to maintain its grip, losing the strength it initially carried. The director brought forward some very interesting concepts that had the potential to shine, but the execution never managed to bring them to life fully.

Certain portions of the storyline felt underdeveloped, and some subplots left the viewer confused. As we move through the events at Saint Martin’s University, we begin to understand the nature of the issues between the students and whether they managed to settle their disputes.

What Made Yuva Bear a Grudge Against Prabhu?

Yuva had deep-seated resentment towards Prabhu, which dated back to their school days. Prabhu had failed his final year presentation for the fifth time after unknowingly consuming a sandwich laced with hallucinogens just before facing the panel.

Though he wasn’t an underperformer academically, Prabhu had found comfort in the academic environment of Saint Martin’s University, where he was respected by peers and staff alike. His girlfriend Gayatri was also a student there. Even though juniors were wary of his presence, Prabhu never abused his status.

Things took a turn when Yuva arrived on campus. Unlike many others, Yuva was unbothered by hierarchy. He stood up to the senior students, showing no fear. He recognised Prabhu immediately and confronted him with a piercing question about whether he remembered him.

Prabhu could never forget that face. A painful memory resurfaced—Prabhu had once been a helpless onlooker as older students brutally attacked Yuva back in school. He had failed to intervene, and guilt had followed him ever since.

Yuva interpreted Prabhu’s inaction as deliberate cruelty, believing he took pleasure in his suffering. So, when they crossed paths again at university, Prabhu wanted to apologise, but Yuva wasn’t ready for any reconciliation. His goal was to dismantle everything Prabhu had built.

What Happened Between Kiruba and Venilla?

Venilla had plans to contest for the position of general secretary, fully confident that a transparent election would put her ahead of her competitors. Her rival, Surya Sabapathy, was the daughter of a powerful politician and a college trustee. Surya didn’t want to go through the electoral process and tried to have the appointment handed to her.

This move triggered strong opposition from Gayatri and Venilla, who called it an attack on democracy. Kiruba, a loyal associate of Surya’s father, reacted violently without any instruction, and in a horrific act, he disfigured Venilla’s hand by pouring acid on it. Traumatized, Venilla withdrew from the race.

That was the outcome Kiruba and his allies had planned for. But Gayatri refused to accept defeat. She pleaded with Venilla to reconsider. Though reluctant initially, Venilla chose to stand her ground. She knew that walking away would only empower the wrongdoers.

She returned, more determined, and with support from Gayatri and others, she lodged an official police complaint against both Surya and Kiruba. Surya, although initially declared the winner, had her appointment halted after the FIR was submitted to college authorities.

The Festival Controversy and the Raging Feud

The university administration decided that the annual cultural event would be handled by first-year students, a break from the tradition where seniors took the lead. Prabhu, in his final year, found the change unreasonable. He believed the freshers lacked the capability and thus refused to support or participate in the event.

Tensions rose when one fresher, Bala, disrespected his former partner, triggering deeper division within the campus. The student body split in two—freshmen rallying behind Yuva, and seniors backing Prabhu.

Even though Yuva had affection for Rishika, he was ready to give that up to get revenge. The two main rivals finally confronted each other after several confrontations. During their fight, Prabhu chose not to retaliate, allowing Yuva to release his pent-up rage.

Kiruba’s Final Attack and Its Fallout

While the campus was engulfed in this conflict, Kiruba remained as dangerous as ever. He expressed regret to Surya that he hadn’t gone far enough in harming Venilla. Angry and vengeful, he planned one last attack to crush anyone standing in Surya’s way.

He stormed the field where Yuva and Prabhu were battling, and in a brutal act, slashed Gayatri’s throat while his associates captured Venilla. Witnessing this, Prabhu and Yuva abandoned their fight and jointly attacked Kiruba and his gang. Emergency services rushed Gayatri and Venilla to the hospital, and thankfully, doctors managed to save both women.

Justice and New Beginnings

By the closing moments of Por, authorities arrested both Surya and Kiruba, and many hoped that justice would be served without compromise. A sense of unity returned, as Venilla, Gayatri, Prabhu, and Yuva stood side-by-side on the rooftop, receiving applause from their fellow students.

Prabhu, now employed and having cleared his exams, was likely to finally get an answer to the question he had long asked Gayatri. The trials they had all endured may have convinced her to start afresh with him. As for Prabhu and Yuva, their shared experience may have created a lasting bond, with both ready to support each other going forward.
