The Snow Girl Ending Explained: The Truth About Amaya’s Disappearance

The Problems of justice and redemption form the emotional core of The Snow Girl.

The six-part Spanish series adapts Javier Castillo’s novel of the same name, following the journey of journalist Miren (Milena Smit). Her relentless determination to assist a family in finding their missing daughter, Amaya, who vanished during a parade in Malaga in 2010, forms the heart of the story.

The Snow Girl transitions between multiple timelines, weaving a tale of suspense and mystery. Miren conducts her own investigation alongside the police, aided by seasoned reporter Eduardo. As the tension escalates across five episodes, the search for answers about Amaya’s fate grips viewers. However, the final episode’s conclusion left some questions lingering. Here’s a breakdown of the ending.

The Snow Girl Ending Explained

The series finale begins nine years after Amaya’s disappearance, with Miren being questioned by the authorities. She plans a visit to Iris, the woman she suspects of abducting Amaya, though Iris’s motives remain unclear. Miren approaches Iris under the guise of covering a story about rural living. While Iris allows her inside, Miren’s suspicions deepen, though she cannot confirm Amaya’s presence.

After leaving, Miren photographs the house and continues observing. Alarmed by Miren’s visit, Iris hastily prepares to flee with Amaya. Despite police warnings, Miren tails them. In a desperate attempt to avoid capture, Iris decides to drive off a cliff, believing it’s the only way to keep them together. The crash kills Iris, but Amaya survives.

Amaya, holding a gun, shoots Miren in the shoulder during their confrontation. Miren manages to subdue her until law enforcement arrives. Amaya is hospitalized, and her parents, Ana and Álvaro, rush to reunite with her. Tragically, Amaya no longer recognizes them.

Eduardo provides insight into Iris’s actions. A former patient of Ana, who was a fertility doctor, Iris resorted to abducting Amaya after failing to conceive. She raised Amaya in isolation, renaming her Julia and convincing her they were mother and daughter.

While Miren successfully rescues Amaya, she remains a suspect in the deaths of Luque and Foster, who perished in a suspicious caravan fire. Luque, a convicted rapist, had managed the dark web forum that hosted footage of Miren’s sexual assault.

Foster, a pedophile, had admitted to viewing the footage and sought images of Miren in exchange for information. Eduardo had discreetly removed a memory card from Miren’s camera containing images of the men before their deaths, leaving investigators with insufficient evidence to charge her.

Amaya is later seen with her parents, though their connection seems strained. The story concludes on a cliffhanger as Miren, now an author, attends her book launch in 2021.

While everything seems settled, she receives an ominous envelope marked “want to play?” Inside is a photograph of another missing girl from 2012, hinting at a potential new mystery. Whether this sets the stage for Miren’s next case hinges on the confirmation of a second season. Fans can only hope for more to come.
