The group gathers in the rear of the plane, where an air pocket provides a temporary refuge. In this desperate moment, Brandon takes charge, devising a plan to await rescue. However, as he seeks an oxygen tank to prolong their air supply, they encounter their most serious threat: sharks.

As Brandon secures additional time for the group with the oxygen tank, he sacrifices himself to the sharks. Above them, a rescue helicopter searches the waters, but the survivors face an escalating crisis as the plane begins to slip beneath the rocky surface.

Realizing they must act swiftly, their hopes of rescue are briefly ignited when they see scuba divers approaching. However, their relief fades as the sharks attack the divers, leaving Ava and Jed scrambling to retrieve the oxygen tanks. Tragically, Jed suffers a near-fatal injury during a shark encounter, finally leading to his demise.

No Way Up Ending: Do the Survivors Make it Out of the Plane?

Facing an insurmountable predicament, Ava and the remaining survivors cling to hope as their survival hinges on an ocean rock. Encouraged by Brandon’s determined spirit and the relentless search efforts by Ava’s father, the chances of their eventual rescue seem promising.

Nevertheless, the arrival of sharks heightens their peril. The group must find ways to extend their oxygen supply, compelling them to leave their air pocket and approach the gaping hole in the plane, where the diver met his fate, all while the lurking sharks await.

Fortuitously, some scuba gear resides in the plane’s luggage compartment, which Danilo successfully retrieves. Consequently, Ava, Kyle, Danilo, and Rosa don wetsuits to help withstand the ocean’s chill. Nana, in a selfless act, opts out of wearing gear to prioritize her granddaughter’s safety.

The group then readies themselves to swim toward the hole in the aircraft, intending to use the diver’s oxygen tanks while making their ascent. As the plane’s structure weakens under the ocean’s pressure, it becomes increasingly apparent that they must evacuate immediately.

Nana, aware that her swimming skills alone won’t suffice without gear, accepts her fate. Understanding that her presence would only hinder the group’s chances, she chooses to sacrifice herself for Rosa’s well-being. Meanwhile, Kyle grapples with paralyzing fear due to a childhood trauma involving near-drowning.

His anxiety leads him to retreat when Ava and the others venture into danger, making him vulnerable to the sharks. In the end, Danilo and Rosa successfully escape with the diver’s tank, swimming toward safety, but a shark passes by just before Ava can follow.

Does Ava Survive?

Following Brandon’s demise, Ava emerges as the reluctant leader of the remaining survivors. Despite her previous struggles with fear, she demonstrates clarity and decisiveness in dire circumstances. Her optimism proves to be her most potent asset.

Yet, she faces the grim reality of her situation alone. With a shark blocking her path from the aircraft, Ava must remain calm and composed to avoid detection. Upon realizing that she can’t escape through the side of the plane, as it sinks deeper into the ocean, she is forced to swim toward the front for an exit.

As the plane switch off the rock and descends into the water, Ava fights against the increasing pressure while also contending with the absence of an oxygen tank. Consequently, even after her escape from the plane, her survival prospects appear grim.

The lack of oxygen soon takes its toll, compelling her to go limp and cease her struggle. Remarkably, this allows her body to float to the surface, aided by the life jacket she wears, enabling the rescue team to spot and retrieve her from the treacherous waters.

Why Does Rosa Let Go of Mr. Tibbs?

As the film concludes, the remaining survivors—Ava, Danilo, and Rosa—are airlifted back to safety. Prior to her rescue, Ava notices Rosa’s beloved soft toy, Mr. Tibbs, floating in the water and retrieves it for her.

The loss of Mr. Tibbs before boarding the plane deeply troubled Rosa, making the toy a vital source of comfort in distressing moments. Earlier, Ava’s effort to find Mr. Tibbs for Rosa established a bond of trust between them.

However, when Ava returns Mr. Tibbs to Rosa, the child chooses to let him go. Once a symbol of security, Mr. Tibbs represents a remarkable part of Rosa’s past. Yet, following the harrowing experience, she has undergone profound personal growth.

Acknowledging that her grandparents, who tragically perished in the ocean, might need the toy’s comfort more than she does, Rosa decides to relinquish it. By dropping the toy back into the ocean, she symbolizes her character’s evolution and the resolution of her story.
